Webster defines jealousy as "resentfully envious." The self-seeking individual who cares only about himself is usually the one that also becomes engulfed in jealousy. When one is filled with jealousy, it keeps them from being rational about other things that are happening around them. A jealous individual is filled with resentment and often times has a negative outlook on life. Yep ... I would call it a sin.

To me it's a sin because when you wish, long or crave for something that someone else has , you actually don't want him/she to own that something but you to be the owner. The bible says ''do to others what you want them to do for you''. But even the Bible says God is a God of jealousy. Actually what it means it this,' God's jealousy is based on the fact that He wants us to serve Him instead of Satan the deciever. His jealousy is of beneficial to us. He wants us to have eternal life with Him'. So, jealousy can only be a sin if you don't want the other to be what you want to be.

Yes, it a sin called envy. If only you feel a wish for something or someone that someone else has, that not a sin but a non-ordered passion, unless you permit that thinking to continue. Even in that case is not a mortal sin.

But envy is called a capital sin, because jealousy leads to mortal sins such as hatred, detraction -that means say a lie to harm someone-, rejoicing over the misfortunes of one's fellow, and whispering as in gossips. That things are also envy.

It sounds like you are confusing "jealousy" with "covet". The terms are not synonymous.

"Covet" is the same as "lust"; it is a twisted, perverse desire for something or someone that you cannot immediately (or ever) have. Covetousness is forbidden in scripture (One of the 10 Commandments), and is therefore a sin. Envy is synonymous with covetousness and lust, but the feelings of envy are usually limited to property (and not sexual relations). Exodus 20 for the 10 commandments.

"Jealousy" is a feeling of anger, sparked by a particularly strong betrayal of trust. A man who cheats on his wife should EXPECT her to feel jealous, for he has betrayed her trust and his promise of faithfulness. Feelings of jealousy are recognized, in the Old Testament, as a problem in a married relationship. The treatment for jealousy was not contrition and sacrifice, but marital counseling and (in extreme cases) the invoking of a blessing/curse. Unwarranted feelings of jealousy were recognized as a mental/spiritual problem, needing treatment, not as a sin. Check out Numbers 5 for the Biblical reference.

Yes jealousy is a sin. But the Bible says

Romans 4:8 “ But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

The amount of sins you commit don't keep you out of Heaven because Jesus died for all of your sins (past, present and future). Just put your trust in him and all is forgiven.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 “ For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man boast.”

God Bless You.

Jealousy is an emotion not a sin. You are choosing that emotion. Work on not choosing to feel it.
