... then are you not an athiest in respect to all the other gods that have been claimed by man? Wouldn't you be merely 1/___ (somebody smarter than me please fill in the blank,) part god-believer and the rest athiest just like me?

(There, do you see now how tiny the difference between us really is and how small a step it is to understanding your world without the help of fantasy gods?)

If you are "athiest in your thinking toward Zeus, for example, you know what it is to believe "he" is not god... you would then be qualified to understand precicely what it is to be me - believing that your god is nt god.

I am a computer programmer even though I haven't written programs for every computer in the world.

I am a theist (and not an atheist) if I believe in one or more deities.

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
— Stephen Roberts, (1723-1792)

Hey Randy,

Here's the math*: There are 150 religions in the world with more than 1 million followers each. This means Christianity's chances of being the right one are about .6%. So there's a 99.4% likelihood that Christianity's beliefs are not accurate. (or as you phrased it that makes them less than 1% God-believer and 99.4% atheist - towards all other gods). Btw, the same could be said of most religions. If we include religions with less than 1 million, this percentage starts approaching 100%.

Christians' often come across as arrogant, which is somewhat justified since they are the majority religion in the U.S. One humbling perspective is to break down earth's 6.6 billion population into Christians: which form a minority of 2.1 billion adherents, and non-Christians: which form a majority of 4.5 billion. This is useful to help Christians realize that while they are the dominant majority in the U.S., globally their way is not the only path, and that the bulk of the planet's inhabitants do not share their views. Nor does the planet appreciate their condemning 4.5 BILLION of their fellow planet dwellers to roast in the fiery pits of eternal hell for having a difference of opinion. Alright, so it’s imaginary – it’s still not a very nice thing to do, even metaphorically speaking. (e.g. If my neighbor has a gun that I know has blanks, but he thinks has real bullets & he shoots me in the face, I'd be just as upset as if they were real! The fact that he wanted to kill me is the salient point.)

I liked that you were trying to show bible worshipers the common ground they share with atheists. It is unfortunate the lesson was lost on them. "It is difficult, none the less, for the ordinary man to cast off orthodox beliefs, for he is seldom allowed to hear the other side.... Whereas the Christian view is pressed on him day in and day out."
— Margaret Knight

"The easy confidence with which I know another man's religion is folly teaches me to suspect that my own is also."
— Mark Twain (1835-1910)

In the Church of the SubGenius, we believe in many gods, including Jehovah-1, Affathaughth, The Bleeding Head of Arnold Palmer, Banono, Bohandas, Doormamuununu, Eris, Fastitocalosaurus, Hastur: The Thing Without a Face, Jesus Christ (AKA: Steven Bevilacqua), and of course, J.R. "Bob" Dobbs: that living God that walks in huckster's shoes.

And as "Bob" always says, "Just because some jackass is an atheist doesn't mean that his prophets and gods are any less false. "

Atheist means not believing in any god. You are confusing the terminology.

The opposite is a theist or a believer.
If a man or woman believes in any god he or she are a believer so not a atheist or part atheist for that matter.

Sorry, but honestly the difference is bigger that you imagine. Believers not only believes in a god they respect and follow the faith about that god.
If you are agnostic, that means believe that god exists that does not mean that you follow him. God means nothing in your life.
If you are atheist, that means that god does not exist for you.

Even if I should happen to believe in the wrong god then in the end I would only get blamed a little for serving the wrong god but I still would be better off than you for making yourself god.

My God Jehovah isn't a fantasy and he is very real and powerful and made the first two humans that we all came from. But I am not an Atheist to the other Gods! I do believe that Satan and his demons exist.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the scientists for dispelling the mythical false Gods. The Disciples of Christ couldn't have done a better job...

Now, go, and sin no more....

..then you are a monotheist. If only you could be someone who believes in God the father and follow Jesus' WAY, then you could be a monotheist. I would say you're a Christian in search of a home or a Muslim, Jew or someone in search of the name you call God by. You not just call him God?
