Prahlad ji please accept my pranamas....we were missing you.

In fact both your questions are inter-related. The biggest paradox of life is that we see people dying...but never think of our own death.

As per Gita, shri Krishna says those who remember me at the time of death... come to me

" अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा....संशय: "
(Bhaktivedant's gita 8/5)

" यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं.... भावित: "
(Bhaktivedant's gita 8/6)

In these 2 shlokas Shri Krishna clearly tells that those who remember him at last breath reach him

So one should remember God at the time of death.

But... if someone has not remembered god throughout the life.. he cant remember him suddenly at death.

Long back I drowned in sein river in Paris... and when i thought i am going to die.. .i only remembered my kids...was thinking abt them..No thought of God came to me...luckily I was saved by a french man...who revived me by giving artificial respiration etc.

So one should always think...that this breath is my last...and i dont know if there will be next breath... and thus in each breath he should remember God...that z the only way. !!

EDIT: Prahlad ji... in spirituality no one is senior and no one is junior... we are all gopis..loving Krishna !!!pls accept my pranam again...and to all who have written beautiful explanation here..

The predicament of impending death was felt by King Parikshit when he was destained to die due to snake bite within 7 days as ordained by a recluse. In fact he resigned to the fate but utilised the time in a best and meritorious way by listening to the story of Shri Krishna from the lips of Shri Suka Brahma maharishi. We, ordinary mortals attach no such importance to the impending death sentence(though we may not exactly know the date). We still behave like immortals and enjoy the fleeting pleasures, the senses convey us. Alas, it is our fate. We too must concentrate on the esoterical truths of spirituality and spend our life in a fit manner so that we can enter into God's kingdom as depicted in Christian philosophy.

Just suppose, it is you yourself on the death bed and you are fully conscious that your going to die in no time.
Be as cheerful as you can, forgetting all your pains and sorrows. The next moment you are getting out of all the pains and sufferings.
Let those attending you, be encouraged with your cheerful farewell, let them ask you what makes you cheer full. You whole life is cherished if you can convey to them , you are happy that you are flying off from all the pains are sufferings.
If you are doubtful of such an end and you think it is just impossible for a dieing man, , ask any true Christian, "is it possible". you would be amazed to hear their answer, and you will be still amazed if you witness the death bed of a true Christian.

1) When a person know's that he/she will die, he should seek the services of a spiritual master and earnestly learn the scriptures up and till death.
eg would be Maharaja Pariksit
Srimad bhagavatam.

2) Everyone dies, but life is about destroying one's inner ignorance. This is gradual process and may take many lifetimes. However, one should seek progress on the path to self realisation.

All I can say to your question is, we all, unless we intend to kill ourselves, are in the same boat. No one, is promised one more breath. Not one. I have had friends that where perfectly fine at 8:30 pm, and at 9:00 pm they steeped into eternity. I had a cousin just two weeks ago, in a semi-pro mini stock car race who on the final lap while in the lead, had a heart attack and died on the track. We each should be ready to meet our creator at all times, because any time may be our last time.

Just remember at that time the one God who created us and that is the time we are returning to Him. Praise Him in your own words according to your own religion and ask forgiveness for your sins as He is the ONE to forgive us. This way death would be easy and hopefully with no pain. Why to be afraid of death, every one has to die, so dont ever be afraid, you never know a better reward is waiting for us in the next world.

1.) Who is knowing he is dying now. I guess a normal person with no mystic abilities.

just concentrate on the Hari, and Hari should be the last thing, which will be analyzed , synthesized and assimilated by the brain, with the use of cosmic energy ( it will be used automatically, without that thought cannot initiate and exist ) . though this is the most difficult thing to do. you know why and i very well know u know the answer too. Still .. answering for the pleasure of the Lord.

2.) He is certain to die but does not know when.

same thing here too, do what the above person did, but continue to do so, till u die.

hope i passed your exam.

1. Normally ~ a person who is going to die "without delay" would speak to the one who is near and tell them to say goodbye to their loved ones. Now, that is assuming there is someone there to speak with.
2. Those of us cursed with the knowledge of our impending deaths, should use the time they have to right their wrongs ~ love their families and make peace with whatever god/goddess or none that they choose.
We all start to die the minute we are born ~ it's what we choose to do with that life that defines us and our end.

This is not a matter of doing. This is all about consciousness. We all have different levels of consciousness. And it will really depend much on what the individual is concern of in this life even if you give him/her all the knowledge of the after life, it will not matter to him, because his consciousness may not accept it. It is like giving knowledge to a grade-schooler coming from a college student.

But , for the sake of your question one can ask this question and one can ask this question even if you are not dying, "who do I want to be now."
