I take 2MG of Xanax monday/wed/sat. I have generalized anxiety and I take it for occasional relief. Is that too much?

I've taken Xanax for about a year now and at first, I only took 2mg, 2-3 times a week for panick attacks. But then I would start to take a half a pill every once in a while when I was just anxious. My doctor kept refilling my prescription so I kept using it for both the panick attacks and also just for every time I felt nervous. It didn't make me high or anything, it just calmed me down. Now, I've found that the Xanax is actually creating anxiety when I don't take it. It's terrible and it's the worst feeling in the world. I hate being dependent on something and I wish I would have never started taking Xanax. I'm going to the doctor today to tell her I want to try to quit. It's going to suck going through the withdrawals, but hopefully she'll help me by letting me taper off. I'm only telling you all this to warn you. As long as I didn't take it every day, I was fine....but when I started to take it every day, even if it was only .5 to 1mg...then I became physically addicted. You don't want that to happen, trust me. So just keep taking it the way you are and you'll be fine. Good luck and take care.

2mg of xanax is not a huge dose and you are not taking it everyday so I would say you are safe. Just make sure you dont get dependent on HAVING to take it for certain situations as you will be digging yourself deeper in the anxiety roller coaster.. anyone who has had anxiety will understand this!!!

Also, have you tried other approaches to your anxiety? I found that regular exercise increased my endorphins (happy hormones) and made me feel better about myself!

My dr. says as long as I stay on the amount he prescribes, I'll be okay. I can't imagine the way you've got it dispersed through the week that you could get hooked. Do you ever have feelings of panic--I need my pills that continue for more, say, than 5 minutes? I'm sure you've seen drug-seeking behavior and junkies on TV. That's an addiction.
