Definitely XP at this time. You've got enough RAM for Vista (assuming you meant a 1GB stick and a 256MB stick), but the HD is a bit undersized. Also, more than likely you have some older programs on your pc that work fine under XP, but many might be "iffy" under Vista, and likewise the drivers to run things. There's an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", and I think that applies here. Just run your pc until there's an absolute need to get a new one, and then get one that's Vista ready....by then a lot of bugs will be ironed out of Vista, and more than likely a Service Pack will be out for it too. Hope this helps.

Well the memory you have will demand you run XP. 256 will not work with Vista (ok it might but not very well) Vista wants at least 512 works better with 1gig and really works well with 2gig. So either plan on major upgrades or run XP (which at this point in time is a better OS for most people)

Vista is still too new for me...I'd give it a while to work the bugs out (yes it has bugs). Not to mention how resourse heavy it is. Needs a good machine ( in other words new) with at least 2 gigs ram and lots of speed. XP is the way to go right now. check out the windows web site for a free program that will check your machine and let you know if it's Vista ready. Don't get caught up in the Hype... be patient.

Personally I would stick with XP. I have used both and here's what I have discovered.
Vista may be prettier and a bit more secure, but the functionality is yet to be desired. All the programs you normally would use in XP, a big majority will not be supported by Vista. That leads to driver updates and/or new software.

XP NO CONTEST as you would need at least 1 gig of ram to run vista and to be honest even a gig of ram on vista is pushing your luck as 2 gig would be a safe bet for a stable system.

Stick with XP. Vista is in computer stores now, but it still has some flaws, and I think you need 2 gigabyte memory to run Windows Vista.

They're still kinda working out the bugs in Vista, so I'd stick with XP for now.

XP> Vista is not in beta mode. It's been released. It shouldn't have. Not for a long time at least. Vista is a resource PIG. Bad hardware compatibility. Bad everything. For now at least.

Better to stick with XP at this time. If you really want to run Vista get at least 2gig of ram.
