I work with dogs all day long!! While most dogs are absolutely wonderful, we do get those few who are freaky... to say the least!! The best dog we have at our clinic is a Dobie named Sire! He is such a sweetie!! He does not need any restraint for vaccines, walks over to the scale on command (usually we have to really convince dogs to hop on!), and smiles/kisses throughout the entire exam. Nails, ears, no problem!!

The worst dog at the clinic is a little 5 pound Chihuahua named Killer (of all things!!!). He is a terror!!! Don't get me wrong... I LOVE Chihuahua's but he is a little demon!! The only dog that has bit me! AND he bites his owner all the time. He screams the entire time we are in the exam room.. even before we start vaccines! It take two of us to get a muzzle on him because he will literally lunge and bite. It is just as dangerous to get the muzzle off of him!! I do feel bad for him because he hates the vet so so much, but apparently... he acts like that at home too! His owner is scared of him!

But there is no breed I would call the best or worse... those are just the two guys I thought of when I read your question. Some of our best patients are Chows, Pits, Rotts, etc.

It is ALL in how the individual dog is raised and trained by their owners.

I've always been leery of chows since one almost took off my cousin's arm without provocation. I am also uncomfortable around Akitas because they are often very aggressive with other dogs. One attacked my friend's German Shepherd (again, without provocation). I have a Beagle, my sister has a Lab, and both are incredibly sweet. I love dogs. I'm just a little nervous around a few breeds.

The worst dog I ever met was this huge one, might have been a bull mastiff that bit me for having the audacity to use the road near its house. The best dog I ever met was the pit bull who was hanging around the mastiff the next time it was out loose. The pit bull kept placing itself between me and the mastiff, even though the mastiff was twice its size and showing aggression. I'd never seen the pit bull before, and just figure it was part angel.

It really makes me sad that pit bulls have such a bad reputation because there are those who train bad things into them, or do supervise them properly, because the ones I have met have all been such happy, loving, generous animals. Mind you, it's not like I hate bull mastiffs in general - again with the owners needing to properly supervise and train them right.

Hmmmmm well i own two dachshunds and have always owned this type of breed. Mine have never ever attacked or bit anyone , at times they bark when outside protecting their territory, but never have bitten anyone! I think much depends on their Owner and how long they are left alone on a daily basis. any dog can be sweet and kind and still protect their owner or "property" without being aggresive like attacking or biting someone.Spend more time with ur pet and disapline them , they learn, some tougher to learn than others, never hit your dog or be aggressive towards them or they learn also from that!

The worst dog I've ever met was a chow chow (sorry, I know you liked your chow) who tried to bite at everyone, and when she was at home, she just sat outside and barked constantly. It made me not so fond of my neighbors! The best dog (don't tell my other two, though) is my Australian Shepherd, "Foster." He is extremely intelligent, well-trained, intelligent, and affectionate. Yeah, I'm bragging :-)

the WORST dog ever was a doberman that was owned by my neighbor. I love dobies, just not that one in particular. It always jumped the fence and came snarling and barking at me. It never attacked but it was scary as heck.

The best dog I ever met was probably a lab owned by my banker. He was the sweetest, loving dog and he was also soft and cuddly.

Best dog would have to be my Italian Greyhound. He can be hyper but is very sweet and nice and goes everywhere with me. He loves car rides and sitting by me when I read. he is also fun to watch when he plays.

Worst dog I ever met was a dachshund that attacked me when I was little. I was just walking down the street minding my own when this stupid little dog runs up to me growling and snapping and he ripped my clothes then ran for it.

My childhood wheaten terrier, damn thing was crazy. The phone rang and she bite the nearest person. She would chew her bone on my feet as an excuse to bite me. She would bite you when you were sleeping.

My family had to call in a dog psychologist that put her on Valium and suggested we move all the furniture out of the house and put static mats down. Stupid dog stopped drinking water for 4 years, she landed in the vet on IVs a couple of times and then we started boiling water in her food.

Nothing helped... It turned out the breeder was breeding known aggression in multiple generations.

My best dog was my pit bull, she was simply the best dog I have known. I hope my new guy turns out as well.
