its a great car! my girl has had her 03 for 3 years now its at 70k and havent had any major problems since!
anyone telling you its got room in it is A. a migit or B. has never sat in one. i have a hard time getting me, my girl, and our toy pomeranion in the car!. (there is no back seat) the trunk is tiny too but its not a car for 5 friends and a trunk full of clothing for that road trip. IMO this is a 2 seater car.
we have leather, its nice but its HOT.
all in all its a very fun car, it needs to be maintained to keep it going long IE oil changes and regular maintance. as long as you keep up on that it will be fine.
id deff recomend like above getting an account at vwvortex.com its a great place with LOTS of ionformation
well good luck and hope you get one! PS aquirous blue(SC) is the BEST color!

Current owner of one.
Good things: Awesome convertible - for convertibles in comparison - very spacious. Excellent smooth ride for three people comfortably. Very good coupe. Sounds stupid - people are envious of you at stop lights when they look over (it's really true). The 'vert friendship - everyone with a VW Convertible waves to one another - it's a thing.
Bad things: small interior as compared to other small compacts (Jetta, Civic, etc.) Back seat can not fold down due to safety concerns (hydralics located there). Very small trunk. Engine is now larger (2.5L versus 2.0L). Large blind spots when top is up (no blind spots when top is down). Bad for family of three or more. Unless you're tiny (5'0" and under), no one can sit behind driver. Have to get used to making turns (large dash of Beetle feels like driving father's Caddie).
I still love my car. It's built upon a trusted chasis design and does well in the snow (as do all Beetles).

Old or New?
New ones suck.. old ones are gems (and very collectible). Most old ones in good shape will go for $13 to $15k and the price goes UP not down in value.
Mileage is good (not great but 28-30 is good) and maint. is easy... (and unforgiving if you don't take care of it).
check eBay for a good quote on car prices for the convertible.

Not my husband. He's such a douche. If I am having a bad day, he tries to out-do me by telling me HIS "bad day" story. If he didn't have a bad day, he'll tell me one he had when he was in the Marines. "Oh yeah....well when I was in Iraq...." which was like 3 1/2 years ago. I don't know if its his way of trying to make me feel better?

European car parts are expensive and can be hard to find.
Convertibles leak water, the top will tear at some point, costing about $1,000.00 to repair at least.
But they are a lot of fun to drive on a nice day.
I have a mustang convertible.
