my son is 2, about to turn 3 in september. When he was born, i didn't want to have him circumcized because of the pain it would cause him. But now, he cries in agony when i try to pull his skin back when i give him a bath. Then my sister said that you aren't supposed to do that until he is 5. I'm so confused because the doctor told me to pull it back. But it is so painful for him. now i am regretting not getting him circumcise. well any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

You should never EVER pull the foreskin back on a child. It is fused to the penis. It does NOT slide.

"It is important to note that the immature foreskin of a child must NOT be forced back for "cleaning" or for any other reason, because this will cause damage to the developing tissues. The child should be instructed that his foreskin will eventually retract. The first person to retract the foreskin should be the child himself." [ http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis/ ]

The intact penis of a new born child does not need any special care.

Read those pages I linked. There are doctors who are poorly educated on the physiology of an intact penis.
Leave your son's penis alone. It needs no special treatment.

"One may expect 50 percent of ten-year-old boys; 90 percent of 16-year-old boys; and 98-99 percent of 18 year-old males to have full retractable foreskin. " [ http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/phimosis/ ]

"Parents are frequently told that the foreskin must be carefully cleaned to remove "smegma" from under the foreskin. Smegma is a natural oily, waxy lubricant formed between the foreskin and the glans. Rarely does it exist in the uncircumcised child whose foreskin has not been forcibly retracted; the substance we are warned to carefully wash away is rarely produced during childhood."

I know where you are coming from all the way!!! I do it to my son to and if I do not do it within a day it is conected so just keep on it. Make sure you are putting something on it if is red, my doctor told me to use A&D oitment. If you don't keep up with it. I have noticed when I didn't do that and it got suck he when then get a hard on (I am not sure if that is the right term to use but you know what I mean) it would tare it worse and it would be more painful. So good luck and keep up with what you are doing. Doing at the end of the bath may be better because the skin is softer then.

DON"T PULL HIS SKIN BACK!

It is fused to the head of this penis until he is at least 3 years old. It would be like peeling off your finger nails to clean under them.

A new born doesn't need to be "retracted" for cleaning, just wipe the outside like you would a finger.

It comes sealed down for protection, it is supposed to remain that way until it will naturally loosen, usually between the ages of three and five. HE WILL RETRACT IT WHEN IT IS READY! Just let him "explore" it and play with it, that is nature working to get him to loosen it. He will tug at his foreskin, usually pulling it away form his body, this will get the natural connection to start to break down. Three-year-olds are well known for having their hands in their diapers, they are doing what nature wants them to do. (Circumcised boys still have the urge to tug too)

You have been causing him extreme pain, his screams should have told you something was wrong!

Don't let "doctors" or nurses retract you son's foreskin either, many of them will try to do this (perhaps to cause this injury) then they will say the boy need to be circumcised. They want to make more money so they force retraction before it time.

Talk to your doctor about this. Describe it exactly as you described it here and offer to bring your son in and have him looked at.
