If you want the money, go for the MBA. Fashion merchandising does NOT pay well and the competition is fierce.

One idea that might work since you're just starting...see if you can minor in fashion merchandising now as an undergraduate student then get the MBA. With a fashion merchandising minor and some good internship/part-time job choices over the next few year, you'd set yourself up for the best chance at one of the high paying jobs in fashion merchandising such as buyer or retail manager.

More importantly, I HIGHLY recommend that you complete an internship as soon as possible. If you think you're interested in fashion merchandising, find an internship in that field and take advantage of every opportunity to learn about the careers available in that industry! Find out what education, training and experience the people you meet have in the field. ...and ask for advice. If you like the field, you'll have first-hand knowledge about what you need to learn and how to tailor your education to your goals. ...and if you don't like what you see, you'll know it before you waste several years pursuing a degree that doesn't "do it" for you!

MBA is an awesome degree, though quite technical. It's also amazingly well-compensated and gives you more options than virtually any other education choice. My advice would be to forget about fashion merchandising- by the time you're halfway through your MBA you'll have a much much better idea of everything. If you really want a tiebreaker, though, take introductory level courses in each of the two disciplines and you'll get an idea of what's in each and what they can do for you. Cool huh?
