I'm 14.Is it wrong that I don't believe in god anymore?
With all the **** that has been happening (war,my friends family dying,my grandfather dying,my uncle dying,my best friend getting cancer) I'm just starting to doubt in a higher power.
I still kind of believe there is something there, but I'm not wanting to please it or meet it anymore. If this higher power is bringing hell upon us right now,why would I want to hang out with it for eternity?
I dunno.I'm tired of putting my faith in something I don't know exists.whatever happens happens and I just don't want to spend my entire life being unhappy about something I dont know exists.my family used to be real involved in the church (my dad was a pastor) and they treated us like ****.
I don't know. These guys that were SUPPOSED to be proving to us that there is a god and that we should believe we're being really rude and saying stuff like "well you're going to get judged whether you like it or not"
that really doens't make me believe.
help?

Considering what is going on in the world today, a lot of people start to feel the way that you do now and begin to question why, if God is love, is there so much evil in the world. There is nothing out of the ordinary about such a response.

However, those of us who do believe in a loving God, understand that He is not the one who is pulling the strings when evil people commit evil acts. The Bible plainly tells us that Satan the devil is the ruler of this world and he is the god of people who commit these acts.

But, there is both bad news and good news. The bad news is that things are going to continue to go from bad to worse, especially the more people turn their backs on God. God says to seek him and you will find Him, if you search for Him with your whole heart. This implies that we won't find Him if we don't put a foot forward in His direction. That is why the state of the world is getting worse.

The good news is that, for the time being, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is still restraining a lot of the evil that will be unleashed once He is taken away. Christians will not have to worry about how bad things are going to get from that point on, because we believe that, when He goes, we will also go in the Rapture. We will not have to be here to endure the great woes that will come upon the earth at that time.

Even better news is that these woes will only be allowed to go on for a short time, before Christ returns to destroy all evil forever. Those who have turned their hearts to God will then be able to live in peace and harmony. Revelation 21: 3, 4 speaks of this new heavens and new earth as being a place where there will be no more pain, crying, death, or any other painful thing that we experience right now.

Please be encouraged because, as bad as things may get, we have these promises to hold on to. But if you reject God and what he says, what hope do you have?

If you'd like to discuss this some more, please feel free to contact me.

Now, go ahead all you Atheists and thumb me down, because I know it's coming. And believe me, you don't hurt my feelings. So, go ahead and do your worst. At least I know I have hope.

It is normal to question your faith at times. You have been through a lot. It makes it harder when people who are suppose to be christians do not treat us well.. But believe me, we all aren't that way.

Being 14 is a tough age in the first place. And you just need not to worry so much right now about things. Just concentrate on being 14 and doing what is right . And I have a feeling you know in your heart what is right. You said your dad was a pastor. You have been taught right from wrong.

Even adults question their faith at times, especially when things get hard. God understands that. But He wants us to remember that he promised never to leave us alone.

Even though you have felt alone through all your trials you are not. Talk to God, tell him how you feel. He can handle it. And just listen in your heart.

God did not promise us a bed of roses when we chose to follow him, he said, "take up your cross and follow me"

Also remember, "God didn't take Daniel out of the lions' den , he spent the night with him"

I will say a prayer for you tonight..

also if you'd like to send me a message or talk. I'd be glad to.

First let me say I am truly sorry for your loss and your troubles, and remind you that it is our trials that although tough, when finished create in us the strength we need to survive in this world. And although it may be hard to see it now there is a purpose behind all trials. Second please don't take this the wrong way but if your following Christ to make you life better then your in it for the wrong reasons, Christ did not endure anything that he wouldn't ask us to do, and this world is not the prize this is just the sorting period, to prepare us for the true glory that is to come. Third You are loved, no matter what you decide, no belief or lack there of should ever be forced on someone, it needs to be from your own heart and mind. I hope you stick to the good fight, there are some job perks but its not an easy road, its just a road well worth traveling.

Pattytheawesome,

I think that you are discouraged and disappointed right now. You are going through somethings and don't quite know how to handle your feelings. I am sorry about your friend with cancer.

You should not give up on God. He is there. A lot of times we learn lessons in suffering that we don't understand at the time it is happening. But in the end you will understand and know the reason for the things that have happened in your life.

You are so young and have so much living to do. Don't look at your circumstances. Read Psalm 31:24 and meditate on it.

There are a lot of different explanations of Higher Power. If you've been taught only one version, and you're doubting that version, then perhaps it's time to consider some others - which doesn't mean giving up entirely. Martin Luther had some serious issues with the teachings of his church, and he's famous for raising those issues them openly, but he didn't give up on God, faith, or helping his fellow humans find truth and meaning. (I'm a Unitarian Universalist, not a Lutheran, but I respect how Luther handled his doubts.)

Anyways, if people are cruel to you or your family, then even if they are church members, and even if they say they're being cruel in the service of God, I doubt that their cruelty actually comes from any Higher Power.

There is an order to things 1. Believe in yourself 2. Believe in love 3. If you want to believe in a god stop referring to a solid definition of such with stories and attributes that make no sense, like Christianity does, or just dont believe at all. Its not a must have or else i wouldnt have put it lower on the list.

You have to make up your own mind, no one else can do it for you. But there is certainly nothing wrong with not believing.

In the meantime, since it seems as though you've gone through a lot of stuff, perhaps you want to talk to a counselor?

No, that's perfectly normal. There's no evidence for a god, and everyone realizes that at some point. The question is, do you accept that there is no god or decide to live in denial?

I'm sorry you've been having a hard time. I urge you not to base your belief in the fact of God's existence based on your emotions. Emotion doesn't determine truth.

good is just someones opinion about what the believe is good or right etc. people who eat healthy say its bad to eat so call junk food because if they did they wouldnt maintain their weight so its a way to filter our external world to maintain the person we want to be.
