I think it is too long, and uses language that is not conducive to constructive remediation. I would not want to sign it.

LOL! This is great stuff! I love some of the comments. But more than anything, I love that a hypocritical, lying, criminal sack of feces like Hovind is doing time. I hope he has a large and agresssively amorous cell mate!
Maybe there's a little justice to be had in the world after all.

Well good luck with that. The whole petition to get out of jail thing doesn't usually work.

Apparently I ruined your atheist-only request!
Sorry.
Wow, it seems like people aren't happy with a court of justice's decision.
Now, I don't know much about this man, but that petition is pretty sketchy; not in a "cool" way either.
Just saying "He should be released, we think hes innocent" simply is NOT ENOUGH.
Twelve counts of tax evasion?
Lock him up for at LEAST thirty, and bump that 600,000 dollar fine up to about 6,000,000 and THEN we'll be happy.

It's stupid. The man didn't pay his taxes. His religiosity has nothing to do with how good a man he is. If he'd followed the law, he wouldn't have this problem. Let him out now and what kind of precedent do you set? A crappy one, that's what. Be a white collar criminal! Get off if you can prove you're a "good Christian" man with post-secondary education!
No way. He made his bed, as the saying goes, let him lie in it.

From what I understand, and what other sources that I have read, technically the guy is right: there is no law stating you have to pay income taxes, and also I believe it is said that the very organization who handles the money of America, the Federal Reserve, is an illegal organization. The Founding fathers wrote very clearly that NO PRIVATELY OWNED ORGANIZATION IS TO HANDLE THE US CURRENCY; yet,
the Federal Reserve IS privately owned. And whats more, the Federal Reserve has NEVER ONCE BEEN AUDITED. NOT ONCE.
Anyway, as far as this guy goes, even though I think he technically is right, theres no way he's gonna get away with not paying taxes, and theres no way the government is gonna let this guy set any kind of precident to other Americans that they can sue and possibly get away with paying their taxes; its not gonna happen.
That said, I don't want to sound corny or anything, but we have alot of expenses in this Country - lets face it: We Americans like to live well - we get mad when there are potholes in the roads; we want nice parks
and shade trees lining our streets, etc. Not to mention all the programs for the poor and disabled, etc. Paying taxes funds alot of stuff that people count on for their very survival. I think its kind of crappy for someone to not pay their taxes - Nobody wants to get raped on their taxes, but you know as well as I do that there are all kinds of tax breaks and credits for almost everybody to where unless you are super rich, you aren't gonna get taxed too much beyond what you are able to pay;
I think the guy should pay his damn taxes just like I am gonna pay my damn taxes.
But what I don't get, is why do you only want Athiests to answer this question? Christians have to pay taxes too ya know -
I'm curious as to why you don't want Christians to answer. ??

It isn't hard to tell the godly from the ungodly among those petitioners. Such vile, filthy comments. Regardless of what the man did or didn't do.

Well, obviously "God" WANTS Mr.Hovind in prison, or He would imbue him with the power to walk through walls.
I think it is a little sad that so many apparently sincere Christians want to help free this huxster!
