The shop installed all new brakes all around, rotors and pads front and rear. They told me the brake light was on b/c the fluid was low but I looked inside the resevoir and it wasn't low....there was actually plenty, just past the MAX fill line. I've never had this light on until now.....

It turned out to be something minute and simple, just rediculous: The REAR ABS WHEEL SENSOR RINGS!

Thanks everyone! Don't forget about those next time, and thank god everything else was performed properly b/c I was fearing the worst, a screwed up ABS module. :) phhhhew close one!

there are sensors mounted on the strut towers that monitor wheel speed. they have two very thin wires leading to the sensors that, if not carefully dealt with, could break and cause your problem.

belive me, i broke a wire when i was installing the front coilovers on my car and had the exact same result. i had to cut the sensor off and rewire the sensor. once i did that, the ABS light was off and everything was good. i did test the ABS on my test drive after the repair and it worked fine...i have since tested the ABS again and it still works (not a planned test that time).

keep in mind too, when your ABS light is on, the ABS will not function if you need it. your wheels will lock up and you will skid in a panic stop. be prepared for that if you need to drive this car for any extended time with the ABS light on.

Schitzo is dead on.. We clamp off the flexibleportion of the brake line, open bleeder screw and retract the piston. This prevents damaging a pressure switch inside the main ABS Hydraulic assemblt($1,000) that cannot be repaired.

I would be pissed if I were you. Anyone that returns a car with an ABS light after doing brakes is complacent or stupid(missed sales opportunity at least). Then they lie to you--YIKES!

Sounds like they didn't retract the caliper pistons properly. On a car with ABS, you're supposed to crack the bleeder screws open before you retract the pistons so that you don't backfeed fluid thru the system under pressure. This can damage ABS components if you crank the pistons in too fast.
Take the car back to the shop & demand they look it over properly & fix the issue. Helluva coincidence that the light came on right after they finished. (Finished breaking your car, that is....)

Complain, tell them you demand for them to scan the computer to find the fault, do not let them tell you that the light will go away after you drive it for a while... they are lying... I would check the fuses first, there are likely two sets of fuses pertaining to the ABS, maybe under the hood of the car as well as in your interior of your car... It happened to me twice, once it was the main ABS fuse, and the other time, they disconnected a ground wire to access something, then forgot to put it back on, I FIXED IT MYSELF.... MECHANICS DO NOT CARE LIKE OWNERS DO. Complain, then complain again, abs modules are expensive to fix... let me know how you make out.

The shop didn't turn off the code for your "low pads" sensors after doing the job.

Possible they did not blead the brakes in the proper order. ABS brakes have a certain order they need to be installed and bled in

should turn off after some driving, normal for it to go on after doing break work
