Paramahamsa Yogananda became familiar in other countries rather than in India. But his immortal book, "Autobiography of a Yogi" is a master piece and is available in many languages in his native land. Only after reading the book, we came to understand about the greatness of Him and His Gurus, Swami Yukteshwar and his gurus including Mahaavatar 'Babaji". I am overwhelmed after reading the book and many passages still reverberate in my mind. His benign smile just hours before his shedding his mortal frame and the condition of his physical feautures really enchanted me.

Paramahamsa Yogananda was the desciple of Sri Yukteshwar Giri, who inturn was the desciple of Sri Lahiri Mahasaya.
Their Parama Guru is the great saint BABAJI.
Babaji is said to be still alive although He is aged more than 1,25,000 years old.
He lives some where in the Himalayas and is only visible to the deserving few disciples.
It is also said that Babaji has a sister who is also a saint and is more than a hundred thousand years old.
Babaji has imparted to His desciples KRIYA YOGA, which is a Raja Yoga of very high standard.
It is believed that a true and consistant practitioner of Kriya Yoga will realise God much sooner than other methods of Raja Yoga.
Much before Paramahamsa Yogananda, there were several great sages in the Hindu spiritualistic arena, who were said to be initiated by Babaji Himself, in their persuit of God realisation.
Sri Aurobindo on the contrary was a sage of 20th century, who lived and practised His Yoga in Pondicherry, India.
He was also a great intelectual and explained every thing about his Yogic methods in His two famous books called SAVITHRI and LIFE DIVINE.
Sri Mother, who was a French yogi and occultist of very high calibre joined Sri Aurobindo and helped Him in spreading His spiritual message to the nooks and corners of the globe.
In nutshell they were all great sages and their teachings and yogic methods are worthy of emulating by all in the world.

I recently put a question about Aurobindo... he is my latest guru !!!
Yoganada became known after the book.. Autobiography of a yogi.
He is more known out side India, but in India too many respect him.
But i like Baba ji and Lahiri Mahasya more than yogananda
and aurobindo is guru for the next era
