Well that mark is not correctly translated.... But yes there is some underlining racism within the ranks of the Mormon Church..... And their practices show it... But if you are a nice little robot that Racism will stay just under the surface............... Also if you read your bible you will know that that mark was a white mark and not black how do I know Just look at what the true race that man was at that time for a black mark on a black man would have no meaning... But a white mark would....... And it a sad thing that people have to find the need to put down another race rather then just obeying God's law and just loving your neighbor as you would yourself... Period.... Also there is not one human that ever walked on the face of this earth that does not have black ancestors and that is a fact.. Proven by science...... Period, so why not just accepted the truth and just get on with your normal life for all the lies in the world can change that truth.......

It's not "as taught by the Latter Day Saint church". It's as the opinion of many LDS past and present.

Why is it, when someone says "racism" they are only talking about blacks? There ARE more than blacks and whites.

The general theme of the Book of Mormon is the epic struggle between the light-skinned civilized Nephites and the dark-skinned Lamanites. Mormon apologists are quick to point out this was a political designation, and is not to be literally interpreted. Brigham Young, not Joseph Smith, set the tone of the church's racial bias which lasted until 1978, so there's 130 years on 'institutionalized' prejudice and several reams of speeches by the apostles condemning blacks as 'agents of Satan'.

The church has yet to retract their doctrine, disavow former statements and apologize for their spiritual mistreatment and exclusion of blacks, but since it's not costing them a dime to be silent, that's the course they keep.

You always read antimormons books....sheeesh

There is no instiutional racism with the LDS church

You can say that same thing about the southern baptist church at around 1860 broke up from the national baptist convention because it stated the black race was inferior to the southern white race and should continue to be slaves to white plantation holders.

and you call Mormons who weren't slave holders racists....sheesh

The Mormons believe we all lived in Heaven with Heavenly Father, several Heavenly Mothers, and 20 Billion Heavenly Siblings before we were born here on Earth. Then there was a war. The good guys won and were born White. The bad guys lost and became demons. Those who were neutral or did not fight bravely were born with non-white skin. The bravest of the brave were born to Mormon families.

We all know that Romney must have been a "Valliant Warrior" in the "War in Heaven" during the "Pre-Existence". How else could he have been born "White and Delightsome" to an LDS family here on Earth? Heck, he was probably one of the Commanding Generals . Now , America needs a President with valuable military experience like that to get us through our war in Iraq. Could you please ask "The One and Only True Prophet", Gordon Hinkley, to please release those valuable records to the public? We need to know what battles he fought in. How many medals he won. How many of the "Less Valliant Soldiers" he recommended being born with black skin when they got their chance to be born on Earth. Was Al Sharpton one of THEM ? How about Jesse Jackson? Mormons, this is your chance to show the world the light of the everlasting gospel. Dont miss out. We have General Romney running for president of the USA and we need you badly right now!

I have heard of several people who black and were Bishops. I have met countless non-white members of the church and none of them seem to have any problems (from the church as a whole) with racism.

Nope, there is no racism in the church, but it is true that black men could not have the priesthood until 1978. But they could still attend the church with no problem. The reason of why black men couldn't hold priesthood before 1978 is not like too clear yet but currently, everyone treats each other with love and respect at our church ^_^

something about black people being the descendents of Cain, being black is supposedly the "mark of Cain", as you said. therefore, they could not hold the priesthood. thats what i remember reading in a previous question asked on here.

You are certainly into this Mormon thing, aren't you. Try googling your questions. If you find this religion so interesting, join it, or buy some books on it. The information would be more reliable.
