My hair only goes straight when its greasy, and my hair looks and feels soft when it is greasy. Since it is naturally somewhat dry and unmanageable, when it is greasy it is straight and soft. Any ideas?

Just don't wash your hair. Some models do it. It goes greasy for about 3 weeks and then the natural oils balance out and you never have to wash it and it looks like it's in really good condition! Make sure you brush it a lot if you do it though to brush all the oils down the hair shaft.

Greasy hair is gross and makes people look dirty and unattractive. Instead, try a smoothing cream, like Sunsilk Anti-Poof 24/7 Creme. This will give the same smoothing effect without the greasiness. Good luck!

Easy! But first of all you need to look after your dry hair.
To protect your dry hair, reduce washing to about two times a week. This isn't dirty-two washes is about all you need to keep your scalp clean with dry hair. Wash with a very nourishing shampoo, probably something that promises to make your hair smooth and shiny. Try schwarzkopf liquid silk shampoo. Condition your hair regularly with intensive treatment to lock in moisture and prevent further damage.
This alone should of made your hair a lot better, but if you want to add more oil, simply smear some olive oil on your hair and comb it through evenly. This will definitely not damage your hair, and will keep it shiny, smooth and straight.
Best of luck!

Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Brush it gently to distribute the natural oils in your hair evenly. Let it air dry, when you dry it with a towel or blow dry it, it will dry it out. You could also try a hot oil treatment, they are inexpensive and can be found at kmart or walmart.

take a brush that is meant for dry hair ( the ones with the bristles) and take and brush from the roots down. this will take the natural oils from your scalp and distribute them through your hair this should help it become a little greasy but a natural way.

but do this when your hair is dry only.

If you take a lot of conditioner put it in your hair then don't rince really well that is how you get greacy hair. Or of you want soft hair you take a lot of shampoo and a dime size of conditioner and rinse really well let it dry on its own it will become soft if you want it to be really, really, really soft put less conditioner in it
