Hi, im a 13 yr old, and im currently looking for a small breed dog (free) before you go on and think ''every one wants a free dog and dont realize how much it really costs...'' Well i do realize how much trouble and money a dog can be. I just dont want to pay thousands of dollars for a pet when its going to cost alot anyways. So i have been putting up ads on to alot of sites and i only had bad replies. I am responsible and willing to pay for whatever the dog's needs are. If anyone knows where I could find a free small dog around the Hamilton ON area please email to lilz94@yahoo.com or if you know any breeders thhat dont charge much (i am willing to pay a small fee if i cant find a dog by christmas. Only answer this if you are goingt o be polite. Thanks !!

I'm sorry I don't know anyone.
I know you said you know what it will cost but I just want to make sure I'm doing this to be nice please don't "hate" me
I strongly suggest crate training that's about $50
food dishes and toys etc can be cheap.
Vet bills for the first year can be about $500
My daughter is 12 and has been with animals but teh other day I asked her how much she thought a new puppy would cost for the first year and she thought only about $200
so i just wanted you to know.
I wish you good luck I do know of several in my area but it's to far for yo9u.

Have you tried your local animal shelters? They do charge an adoption fee, but you may find what you're looking for there. There are so many dogs out there that need good homes, you should definitely try a shelter.

And if your living space allows for it, consider a medium sized dog. Small dogs are hard to find at low prices because it's what everyone wants. If you find a breed at a shelter that's still fairly young, ask the volunteers how big the dog will get. I have a mut that's a cocker spaniel/golden retriever mix that weighs about 50 pounds. She's medium size, reaching me about my knees (I'm 5'5) but she's an awesome dog.

Being that you're only 13, you should also consider adopting an older dog - about 6/7 years old. They will more than likely be already trained and just need a good home where they can relax and live out the rest of their lives. It'll give you good experience with taking care of a pet so next time, when you're a bit older, you'll be better prepared for a puppy because they are A LOT of work. It's just like having a kid and they can be hard to train. Oh, and muts tend to have less health problems than pure breds.

Just some suggestions for you :) Good luck on your search.

This is a link to petfinder.com for your area. There are lots of small dogs for adoption. Usually their adoption fees aren't very expensive, especially considering they've already had their shots and have been spayed/neutered. Rescues don't really make any money off the adoptions.

You can also check at your local pound/animal shelter. Their adoption fees are really low- in my area, they're $50. You can find a great dog that way, but you'll probably have to get your parents to get the dog for you, since you usually have to be 18, etc.

Another place you could look is on Hamilton, ON craigslist.org or your local newspaper under the "pets" section. Many people post ads for dogs free to good home. If you want one for free, this is a really good place to watch.
