it scares you I have to live hear!
the people that come here that you see as the uneducated are the ones that are still in school (teens) or well... Ill be nice they have too much time on there hands. I came here for the few intelligent, and to learn a little too.
I know where Ireland is as it is where my husbands grandparents are from, Donegal to be exact. It is a beautiful country and you have every right to be proud of it. I am also proud of my country and will do what I can to make it a better place for my children.

Ah, the Irish Charmer...are you practicing again? Anyhow, I always thought that the US lay at the western boundary of the Atlantic, while Ireland would be more toward the eastern Atlantic. That being said, I agree with you about the need to improve the American education system. I live in Tennessee, and I am appalled at how few people in my intro college chemistry class could do simple math (addition and subtraction!!!) properly. It is hard to teach someone chemistry if he or she doesn't understand basic math. But this is not a problem that is unique to America, is it? Are you saying that the US should adopt an Irish system? What's your point beyond the obvious recognition that people say a lot of stupid things on Yahoo! Answers? This is a forum that encourages spontaneity and quick turnaround on questions/answers. This encourages those who speak before they think, thus giving their readers the impression that they are less intelligent than they may in fact be.

No you didn't, and I have an IQ 150, I am smart. You are right about some parts a lot of Americans are stupid because below average is considered normal intelligence. We need a higher standard in our system, you are right. It is pretty sad, we should be smarter considering we are a super power that has a very good education system here. I hope to GOD that they make a wise choice next election. Apparently they flock here, lol, jk.

Edit again: The US was made to /escape/ the religious prosecution. It was /not/ made to be Jesus's fan-club. (Not bashing Christians here. Just that one.)
Edit: -_-;; Well, thanks guys for proving my point.
No, no, no insult taken, I know what you mean. The school systems here are atrocious, and I'm a student.
"It just worries me that so many of the total idiots in this section have a vote, and I worry that they might elect a really bad leader that could potentially wreak havoc all over the world...
Oh wait...."
Haha! xD
Back to the point, the schools here absolutely need to be updated. We need better teachers, and those teachers should be receiving some of the money those damn movie stars are. We should push the youth to be better students and better people. The fact that there's even a /question/ about teaching evolution in schools in some states tells you how bad off we are. (Even if you're a creationist you have to be able to realize how well backed up that is, and even if it's untrue or against your beliefs, it's a theory. An important one. /The/ important one, for many biologists.)
We say we're the best country in the world, but most of our youth can't even spell "know". I kid you not.
Ugh, I just wish everyone would get their heads out of their asses. These are your children! Their education and their futures are more important than your economic-politics and your religious warfare! Get /over/ yourselves! Europe is mocking our stupidity!
Maybe someday I can do something about it...
But uh, do remember that not /everyone/ in America is like that. Just the idiots like me, getting wrapped up on sites like this.

If your country espouses ideas that are consistent with the United State Constitution, I have no worries about sharing any American power in the world with you.
Have you read James Joyce's Portrait of an Artist as a young man? Are you sure that your educational system has yet freed itself from Roman Catholic clericalism so that the sermon in Portrait (one of the most horrible visions of hell in English) is totally foreign to Irish culture?
(Is not Father Ted tv show funny precisely because it parodies realities in Irish culture?)
Is there anyway for us to monitor an Irish version of R&S?
Clearly, Ireland has made many strides, economically and culturally, and I have no reason to belittle Ireland. But it has not been too long ago that Ireland was not this up and coming. And the United States absorbed a great number of Irish who could not make it in their homeland. (Thank goodness!! Some of these were my ancestors.)
I think R&S illustrates one of the great strengths of US culture. An openness to debate and the tolerance of, yes, even the stupid.
R&S makes me proud to be an American.

AnyBody can be Super-Intelligent but if he,she don't know Jesus, there Still Stupid!!!
America was Raised Up by GOD Almighty so the Message (Gospel) of Jesus (GOD's SON) can go out into all of the World.
These are the Last Days.
We are at the Beginning of Sorrows.
From what I heard the Other Day, WE have sent the Gospel around the World THREE TIMES.
Get Ready.
All have Heard.
Jesus only said to Go Ye into the World and Preach the Gospel. And Occupy, till I RETURN.
The BEST is YET to HAPPEN.
Soon.
Ditto.............................
p.s. (and I don't eat Lucky Charms Either!!! :)

"God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful....
I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and discard the intelligence of the intelligent...
Since God in His wisdom saw to it that the world would never know Him through human wisdom....
This foolish plan of God's is wiser than the wisest of human plans"
1 Corinthians 1:19-27
Is this what you refer to? There is your answer.
although, yes, taking your question at face value, the education system could definitely use some work. But, tell me, what's going to happen if whole countries continue to center around school breaks? The whole world doesn't need to stop because kids aren't in school for however long.

LOL, well I hate to agree with you but yes the U.S. education system is crap. We no longer hold students to high standards. If 2+2 is 4 and they say 5 well they were close so lets make them feel good about getting close. What ever happened to you old days where there was respect and high standards in school. It's not just the teachers fault but more so the parents of today's kids.
