i was looking at there revolvers but there way to high for what i have. i have a .357 S&W but it has an 8 inch barrel more or less made for woods protection not for having a permit to carry.

It is a marginal caliber for self protection. I would go with a .357/.38Special revolver,or a .40S&W if you want an semi-auto.However if you do buy this gun,it is better than being unarmed.

Personally I do not like any of the kel tec's.. The two i have had have jammed... For ultimate home defense you need a light high cap firearm.. with low recoil unless you are a skilled shooter.
I would rather get an *****F N FIVE SEVEN*****
FN 5.7 the ultimate combat/self defense pistol in my estimation shoots the fast LOW RECOIL 5.7x28mm HIGH PENETRATION rounds that is very accurate at a long distance.. even the hollow points are very penetrable.
With low recoil and high penetration (plus a 20 round mag) you put this gun in hands of a unskilled user they will have the ability for faster follow up shots and engage multiple targets easy and accurately. Police treat suspects with these guns in there hands as if the have a rifle.. And take cover. This is how accurate these hand guns are.
5.7x28mm round shoots about 2000 fps (feet per second)
45 acp shoots about 850 fps....

You also can get a 10 round mag extension.. 30 rounds in a semi auto Pistol...is pretty deadly.....

Next to this i would suggest, a glock 19, berreta 92fs, or some small 38 revolver.

personally I don't think the .380 acp is going to stop any one except a small Asian woman..

The kel tec is a reliable .380 auto. It is not easy to shoot quickly or accurately at ranges past 15 yds initially, but with practice it will do the job. Practice a smooth trigger pull while keeping the "sights" or really the top of the slide in line with your target. It is light weight and with the pocket clip, it clips easily into the waistband. It is very easy to conceal. Go ahead and grab a couple extra mags. One slips easily into the coin pocket on a set of jeans, or in the main pocket.

It is not the gun you want to take to the gun fight, but it's the one you are glad you had on you when the gunfight came to you.

Many people recommend big guns but do not carry them due to size and weight issues.

If you are thinking of stepping up... Look at the Kahr CW9 or any of the Kahr products. Slightly bigger gun, full size defensive calibers, good bit more in price. Around $400 for the CW9.

With a .380, if you can hit the head.... Shoot the head.

Generally speaking, the .380 acp is the minimal defensive caliber.
If you can't come up with another hundred bucks and get a Ruger or Taurus .357 Magnum, that will just have to do. Use the right defensive ammo, quality jacketed hollow point ammo (Winchester Silvertips, Federal Hydra Shok, Gold Dot, etc.)

Try the .45 ACP. If you get a pistol like the Taurus PT145 or the Ruger P90, they are very easy to control in terms of recoil. I personally carry the Ruger P90 and I can tell you it has about as much kick as a 9mm, and I use 230 grain Winchester Full Metal Jacketed bullets, so it must be the pistol.

For self-defense you should never consider anything less than a 357 Magnum or 45ACP*...... The 380 is not considered a good enough defensive weapon**.....That is if you want to be a Survivor instead of a Victim*........You could get a shoulder holster for the 357 Magnum you have now*.......

All the experts say you should use a revolver for Personal Protection, I was looking a Taurus's web site they have a new one out call the Model 44.... Its a Concealed carry based double action revolver that shoots both 44LC and a .410 Shotgun shell, with no modifications...SUPER "Knock-Down" power...not to mention you don't have to be very accurate with a shotgun, Point and Shoot method.

I personally like a 357 mag. revolver for protection. A revolver has less stuff to go wrong with it and is safe to "shoot from the hip".

spend another 100 bucks and buy a ruger or taurus .45 auto. the .380 is a useless weapon. they jam way too much and are un reliable.

Check out www.budsgunshop.com

This Internet arms seller offers a .40 cal. Taurus Millennium compact semi auto for $280.

They even offer a lay away program.

If you are going to carry a concealed weapon, carry a decent caliber.
