Ugh!!! Ok, after this I am SO suing Home Depot for providing false color samples :( K, so I tried 2 get the right colors 4 my room, and I did, according 2 the color samples. Now that the colors are on my wall, it looks like my room belongs 2 a 3yr old! I mean, It looks like one of those cheesy sets from 'Barney and Friends'. Seriously!! I got these AWESOME color samples and what they called 'the right colors' and put them on the walls, and now the orange looks like a bright yellow, and the light orange looks like a neon color or something! Its awful! The only living organism able to look at that room and not burst out laughing is Big Bird! It's ridiculous!
WHAAAAA I TRIED 2 MAKE MY ROOM LOOK GOOD FOR ONCE AND IT TURNED OUT ONLY BEING COOL FOR STUPID BIG BIRD!!
WHAAAAAA
MY RENTS ACTUALLY THINK THE COLORS ARE GOOD
WHY DIDN"T I JUST LEAVE IT WHITE?!?
WHAT DO I DO NOW??

How long ago did you paint? Although paint dries to the touch fairly quickly, it takes several days to fully cure and the color will continue to develop over the curing period. Reds are especially slow to fully develop their final color, and it sounds like the colors you have are missing some of their red. Wait a week or so and see if the color develops to more of what you were expecting.
If the colors do not change to what you were expecting, paint a bit of each color on something (a paint stirring stick works well) and take it, along with any leftover paint and your color cards to the store. Most will mix a new batch for you at no charge if you can show them that what you have is significantly different from the card.

Sorry Dear, you won't get anywhere by suing the Depot. It's not their falt. You picked out the colors and you made the decision on those colors. They only added pigment to the paint you choose,to make the colors you choose. You have to be carefull when painting with Pinks,Oranges,or Red tones. they look darker on a wall, and make the area look smaller. You didn't get the truth about how paint's appear on wall's,because the Home Depot doesn't have the salespeople that are knowelable enough to know these things. They are like Robots that do ,or say what you want to hear, because that's all they were taught to do.Service the Customers. If the customer wants Paint mixed,---than Mix it! If the customer has picked out a really,God Awfull color, and the customer asks,if they like it, Tell the customer the colors look good together! (Even if the colors look terrible) Just like they have no minds. Just do it! Agree with the customer on any matter! Understand? The only thing you can do now, is to bite the big one,and take the loss. You'll have to either live with your Big Birdy,or get a real good primer to cover the orange(and that will be hard) and than paint again. what looks good,(truth) is cool colors such as Greens,Blues,Light Browns,Off Whites,Lavenders, ect. Buy Glidden Paint. I don't like Bher, Martha Stewart, or the rest of the brands. Get Glidden, it's a very good brand, but you have to remember that you are covering a hot color,so it might take two coats. Good -Luck Dear,I hope you learned somthing from this, and if you have, all is not lost because learning is good,no matter how you had to do it! Bye

After all that work.........maybe you could sponge over with a softer color to tone down the effect. Otherwise it's Kilz first coat, then something more subtle next time.
What people don't realize is how the window orientation in a room really affects the colors! This is why you should get the smallest size possible and test paint your room. Yes, it will cost $ to do this, but in the long run it's cheaper than having to repaint.
I hired an artist to come and balance the colors in my rooms.....she is also a very experienced house painter......and she ended up using 3 different colors on four walls in the the largest room because of the way the light and reflections from outside affected the color indoors. Now the 4 walls appear to be exactly the same color.

See if Home Depot will take the paint back. I've returned paint there before. Did they do a test patch for you at the store? Usually they will put a sample of the paint on the can lid or a paint stirrer and blow it with a blow dryer soyou can see the paint before you buy it.
The only advice I have for the future is to make sure you get a test patch when you buy or, the best way I've found to check out paint: buy a small can and paint it onto posterboard. Hang the posterboard in your room using painters' tape and see if you like the color. You can move it around the room to compare with your bedding, furniture, lighting, etc.
I feel your pain. I've cried more than once about paint not looking the same when I get it home. Give it time. You might learn to like it. That happened with my lat paint disaster. Even with the paint patch once I got the paint on the wall it looked PINK!! and I wanted beige. When it dried it looked more beige and now I really love it.

Sometimes the paint is right, it's the way the light hits it that makes it different when it's on your walls. Example: we painted our friends daughters room pink- and when it dried, it looked a sherbert orange because of the light in the room and the reflection off of each of the walls.
If that's not the problem, paint over it with primer and select another color after going to Home Depot.

I am a painter of 37 years started when 13..and I learned this lesson a long time ago....I do not purchse finish paints from home depot or any other diy store..thier consistency sucks on colors..What happens is the person used to mixing paint..comes up for his/her day or two off and heck they might shift someone from gardening or plumbing to mix and match paints...I have seen this literaly THOUSANDS of times....thye hire also the peopel that have painted for years to mix paints..in the old days we mixed paints and stains and even our own putties...now legality wise usually home depot puts a sticker on the paint can telling you to....do a test somewhere to check for proper color...if they failed too you may be okay..but most the time...if the manager on duty is symphathetic..he will make you some new paint by bringing receipt in and empty cans..I have had them argue with me on this fact before..and I told them i can't pay 12 painters to set around and watch paint dry each time i need more paint. i have had this problem with MANY HARDWARE TYPE STORES not just home depot and have learned...Go downthere and raise some cane...they will probably replace it...

I would just either repaint the entire room or get a white paint and sponge over the color to tone it down. sponging is fun and easy to do It might be that the color is correct but on a grander scale it looks much different I would take the sample and see if it matches up with the paint that is on your walls Don't fret to much it is only paint and can always be painted over Good luck the next try

That small paint sample sure looks different in a large space. One of the things you have to take into consideration. If it's really too bright try toning it down with a faux finish. Can always hang a lot of big pictures and plants!

I know exactly what you mean...first did you let the paint dry for at least an hour before judging the color? If so and you still are not impressed....take it back!!!!! Home Depot will take it back and process another can of paint to replace it. I swear they will take it back, tell them it is the wrong color!!!! Let me know if it does not work....but I have done it and they have always honored a paint return....matter of fact they resell it for 5.00 under the name of oops paint.
