The ASVAB number 58 doesn't help any in helping you. You need to know the breakdown of his score. There are specific areas of the test that will allow him into certain ratings that deal with electronics. The 58 deals only with 4 sections of the test, the 2 math and the 2 english. He MAY or MAY NOT be eligible for any of the electronics ratings. He will need to look at these ratings either online at www.navy.com or ask the Navy Classifier at MEPS for the job cards: EM, ET, FC, (AECF Program or ET and FC) FT, IT, IC. Those are the ratings in the Navy that deal with what you are asking about. 58 is not a horrible ASVAB score but it not really great either. He may be limited in choices depending on how he scored of the job specific areas of the test. Availability of jobs is a day by day thing and even and hour by hour thing when your son goes to MEPS. Seats for jobs are seen by all Navy Classifers at ALL MEPS across the country. If someone in OH sees a job they want and you are looking at the same job in FL, whomever asks for the job first will get it. Hope this helps.

you'd have to know his scores on the induvidual sections, but an over all score of 58 isn't very good. He may need to wait a little while and take it again to get the mos he wants. There are study guides you can buy.

what ratings he is eligible for will depend on his line scores, as well as whether or not he is color blind. if he is, he won't be able to do any of the electronic ratings at all. then it's a matter of what schools are available and when he wants to ship out.
