You would have to wait a few days for his own safety's sake. Give it about a week and he should be fine to be let out.
Yes, he can't understand why he's not outside, but this really is for his own safety, after that it's fine and he can get out, and enjoy himself outside.

what did your vet tell you? you should probably ask him/her.

is your cat normally an outdoor cat? or is he more of a "go out for a bit then come back in" type?

i'd say wait at least a week and wait until the incision scabs over and there is no discharge from the wound.

if he insists on going out go to a farm supply store and buy some disinfectant spray. they make it for horses but it works for any animals. give his butt area a spray before he goes out and when he comes back in.

either way keep an eye on him for a good 2 weeks.

Cat neuters aren't sutured. The openings are left to drain. They are usually healed in a week. If your cat goes out now and sits in dirt, he could get an infection. Best to wait a little longer. :)

Why do you want your cat to go outside - period? An infection could be the least of the things that happens to him outdoors:

Your vet didn't tell you when he could go out? I would wait 10 days at least. The stitches should be completely healed.
