Agree. That's the problem with relativism.
There are occasions when you may think something is the truth in the absence of any reason to think that - for instance, a Bronze Age farmer, if s/he thought about it at all, would have had no reason to believe the Earth was anything other than flat and infinite. Anyone believing that sincerely nowadays has to go to some trouble to do so. It's still not lying. But maintaining it may involve some kind of deceit.

Agree. There is a difference between honesty and truth. Truth is independent of any perspective or motive - truth simply is.
Honesty is a matter perspective and motive. Lying implies the motive to deceive. So I believe if one tells what one believes to be true (one is honest), even if the information is untrue, one has not engaged in an act of lying.

If you believe that which you are saying is true, then you are not telling a lie, even though it may not be the truth. However....
Truth can be subjective. Truth can be a matter of perception and experience. Truth is based on knowledge. And here we go again...Truth can be subjective, matter of perception and experience, based on knowledge which can be skewed to both ends of the spectrums or anywhere in-between.
More than not, life isn't black and white. Truth most often is what we want it to be...so we will believe our truth...and we don't want to think that we are lying, so what what we say is the truth.
And I say that the circular arguement has made me want to sip a glass of wine. A glass of red wine is good for the heart. I believe the studies that say that it is since I like red wine. Thanks for helping me see the truth!

Agree, but that does not mean it is not still false!
A thing is not true simply because you think it is. A thing is not true because a group of people think it is, even if that group is in the majority!
A thing is true if it agrees with God's Word!
"There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." (Proverbs 14:12, Proverbs 16:25)
Jesus prayed to the Father saying, "Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth." (John 17:17)
"O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps." (Jeremiah 10:23)
We should compare all religious teaching to the Scriptures to see if it is true! "Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." (Acts 17:11)

The defining word you use there is 'think' Think can mean assume which infers an ignorance of certain material facts which means you can knowingly be wrong. On the other hand it can mean a belief or conviction which is an honest opinion. Therefore it all depends on context.

You may not be intentionally lying, but if it's not the truth than it is in fact a lie.

Agree. As long as you're defining "lying" as an intentional deception.

My favorite quote from George Costanza, "Its not a lie if you believe it." Spoken to Jerry as he pondered taking a lie detector test.
But I think, even if you are lying to yourself so much that you believe it, its still a lie.

Well if you think your lies are truth, then you are mentally ill in some way. And that's all I got to say about that.
