The groomer could be mean to her. I had to stop going to a really good groomer due to this. She cut my dog TWICE and neglected to tell me. I had no idea why my little dog was hiding when we got home.

I rubbed her belly and noticed two huge (NICKEL)size cuts on each hind leg!! I was furious that she did not tell me about it. I would probably been ok if she would have explained what happened but she didnt.

Anyway my dog hates groomers, hates a bath, hates the hair dryer and hates to be brushed. She growls, snaps and has landed a few bites.

My guess is that groomer did something to her. Stay behind and watch through the window for a bit, hide behind a display do some detective work....cause I know petsmart has glass windows so people can watch.

Good luck

Ok, get ready to handle this. My mom is a mobile dog groomer so this question is asked alot. Your dog may be being abused at the groomer's. In fact Petsmart has had tons of accusations. One of my mom's customers went in to petsmart early to pick up her dog and she saw the groomer hit her dog in the head hard with a wooden brush because she wouldn't stay still. That doesn't even cover what they do behind the doors to bathe the dogs. Poor babies. After they are bathed they are put in a cage with a big blow dryer in their face. most dogs just go into a corner to try to get away from the blow dryer. And to add to the stress, about 10 other dogs are screaming and crying and barking. Trust me, when I found this out, my dogs never went to the groomers again. It's really sad. 8 out of 10 dogs are abused at the groomer's. So your dog may be looking to you to help them. I felt so awful knowing that my poor baby was crying yo me for help yet I just handed him over to the guy who would smack him if he moved the wrong way.

Too many times I have seen groomer's be too rough, so it may the case.
Or she just may not want to leave you. Have you ever stayed to watch her be groomed? I know at our PetsMart, the grooming area is surrounded by a clear glass wall- so the owners can watch.
You can always find another groomer as well, good luck.

Some dogs don't like to be left alone... and some groomers aren't real good with dogs. Sometimes people at PetSmart are just trying to get a paying job, and they don't care about dogs, so they can be kinda rough.

You can try to ask them to be gentle, you might be able to watch them through the window after they wash her, or you could try another Petsmart, groomer, or the Vet .....

Your dog is afraid of the groomer - they had to do something to her when she was in their care. I would not recommend petsmart as a groomer. First of all they are not certified (at least in my area). I took my long-haired dachshund in - asked if they knew how to cut him - was told yes, they are professionals - when I picked him up he was cut down to a smoothie (all his hair was gone), he was crying, whining, etc. I refused to pay - and that was a nice mess. In the end, after contacting the regional manager, I did not pay. I would never recommend Petsmart to anyone to use as a groomer.

Often the dog has problems with missing you while they are there. Almost all of them calm down as soon as they can't see, hear or smell mommy any more. If you are concerned that the pup isn't being treated well, ask the groomer if you can stay and watch. I let anyone who wants to stay. They can watch through a window if the dog misbehaves while they are there. If the dog doesn't act up, they can sit right alongside the table.

she must not like that place cause whenever I take my dog there he starts wagging his tail as soon as he sees the girl that grooms him . Oh and btw I had a friend of mine take her dog to pa petsmart groomer and when she came back to pick up her dogs the one had blood shot eyes and they claimed that the dog had shampoo in his eyes BS !!! we took the dog to the vet and they told us that the dog had been hung for a little bit . well the vet gave us eye drops and a statement of his medical opinion. they denied it all and said they would pay half the vet bill BS they were going to pay the whole vet bill or she was going to sue them . I would never have any of my animals groomed at petsmart they are lazy and unconcerned with your animals . good luck.

Most animals are afraid of other people, like children are afraid of the dentist, they think the dentist is going to hurt them when really the dentist is trying to help them, dogs feel the same way about groomers.

Based on the behavior of many of the dogs that come to our shop, it's quite possible that the display is for your benefit and the dog is fine once you are out of sight.
