FYI IT USUALLY TAKES ANTIBIOTICS 2-3 DAYS FOR THE PAIN AND SWELLING TO DECREASE.
FOR THE PAIN TAKING.4 ADVIL EVERY 4-6 HOURS WILL GREATLY HELP THE PAIN.

They didn't give you anything for pain with the antibiotics? How long have you been on them? When is your root canal appointment?
If it isn't tomorrow, maybe it should be... call the office and tell them how much pain you're in and that it's an emergency. They may only perform a pulpectomy, but at least you won't be as uncomfortable as you are now....
If you start to swell tremendously, you may need an I&D (incision and drainage) to relieve the pressure. Hopefully you'll be able to get an appointment tomorrow morning....
Good Luck! :)

Have you tried upping the dosage of the pain killer?
I know the bottle and docters say take this amount, but thats only norm. Many things can affect how your body reacts to medication. For me, I can take oxicodene (sp) and it only gets rid of the pain, while for many others they become sleepy.
As well, recently, the docter has told me that because of my size I can take 4 pills of ibepfrofen (forgive my spelling please). In one case I took about 4x the reccommended dosage of acetominophin (forgive my spelling again). Not sure if it was overkill, I just didnt want to feel any pain in my knee upon reentering a football game that I had been out of for 6 weeks.
Really you need to be the judge of how your body is reacting.

Does your dentist know the amount of pain you are having? If so, and he still hasn't done anything or contacted an Endodontist--call another dentist or call the Endodontis yourself for an emergency appointment.

this is an easy answer. If you have pain in your mouth just bang your head against a wall. Not thinking of your mouth now huh?
