Have been to 2 vets and cat was given steroid shot which helps and antibiotics. But 3-months later, rash is back. Vet said we cannot continuse steroid shots - too many in a year will hurt her or giver her diabetes. Antibiotics don't help. Because of rash she over grooms herself. Any suggestions?

This could be a reaction to something in her surroundings. Do you use any carpet cleaners or upholstery cleaners that she may get on her when lying on the floor or furniture? Or it could be a reaction to the laundry detergent you use. Sounds to me like the vet already thinks she has some sort of allergy as steroid shots would help with that. I know they have allergy tests for humans so I would assume they have something similar for pets. Maybe she can be tested to see what the allergen is then steps can be taken by you to remove whatever it is that's bothering her.

Make sure that her blankets are washed in plain hot wate don't add soap or softener she may be allergic to something on her bedding and if you've just had the carpets cleaned in the last few months she's probably allergic to the chemicals so you'll have to have the rugs steam cleaned and sucked out with just water. Thats all I can think of good luck. Also if she continues to overgroom your going to have to get her a neck sheild. I've made one out of a lampshade but always make sure no sharpe plastic touches her skin. Good luck

If its not fleas or allergies, then it could be a behavior problem. Ask your vet, as there are drugs to help with this behavior.
