I.E. The higher a persons IQ the more likely they are to be an aethist, wereas the lower their IQ, the more likely they are to be relgious. This is not always the case, but is considered the norm.

Even though my spelling is quite atrocious, I have an IQ of 273. I am a Taoist, so therefor one of the very exceptions mentioned in my statement above. The main purpose of posing this question, was as a retaliation to the insults hurled at atheists, by Christians claiming them to lack intellegence.

But I always felt that way, because I am so.

probably true to an extent. IQ doesnt measure several important things that I believe more accurately depict the cause for someone to discover the truth. I think simply a curious mind and an ability to recognize that there is nothing coherent in christian theology (or whatever religious surrounding the individual is born into), and a desire for some kind of evidence is sufficient.

The study is flawed, because I have a PhD in a field of Science and yet I have been a practicing Wiccan since 1971.

It depends on the kind of theism you have chosen to not relate to anymore! It's the abrahamic beliefs that are very stifling and donot allow people to think! I assure you, you will find some very smart religious hindus and buddhists!
The Rig Veda says, Let good ideas flow in from all directions!
Eastern philosophies are different all together and you cannot compare them to rigid abrahamic religions which destroy all human potential by relating god to someone's ideas of good morals!

It's irrelevant to me. I personally couldn't care less. I don't really think that IQ denotes true intelligence.
273? BULL. Don't you mean 173? The highest recorded IQ belongs to Stephen Hawking, doesn't it?

Such a statement is worthless without stating what organisation did the research and whether it was carried out scientifically.
Without that validation your question is not worth the words used to construct it!!!!!!

Hey dude,
Who is it considered "the norm" by?
It is poor form to lob a ball like this onto the court with absolutely zero annotation.

It makes me feel validated. Religion is highly irrational. It is not surprising that the less the intellligence, the greater the belief in something for which there is no evidence. I wish that people were smarter.

My first response is that if there be such a study, please cite it.
Secondly, I would very much doubt that if there be such a correlation between intelligence and atheism that it would equate to running "hand in hand."
I think it is pointless to assert such a correlation (even if such exists). It would amount to a logical fallacy: ad hominem.
