I have thought about it for about a year.
I have had a very rough, strange year. My faith, hope, and beliefs have all been questioned this past year. I have put my physical, mental and especially my emotional strengths to the test, only for the sole purpose of finding my "right path".
I went through what I put myself through hoping it would make my life easier, to see what "path" I am to follow, only to realize the path is more cloudy and blurry now than what it was before I started this.
I have been told that I can make my own path, and that there are millions of ways my life can go, depending on every little choice I make. So that is what I want my tattoo to symbolize. I want something that I can look at and know that my hard work will one day pay off.
Something, even just words, that says "trying to find the right path" or "finding the path". And it doesn't have to be religious or anything.
What should I get? I am part Japanese, so maybe just get those words in symbols.

honestly after reading your description i imagined a tree. especially a cherry blossom tree, when tattooed by the right artist they are quite artful and i have seen some artists incorporate the winding rings of the trees into the tattoos and that is definitely representative of a life's path. and the branches represent how many different ways your life can and will go. if i were going to get a tattoo to represent what you want, that's what i would get. and as for the background i would get a darkness from the bottom of the tree and a light decending (like sunlight) to show you stepping out of the darkness and walking into a light of a better future.

and don't listen to the people who say not to get it. tattoos with deep meaning can be very inspiring and very healing. also times are changing and people are not as descriminated against because of tattoos. you only live once right?
good luck!!

If you like robert frost, you could get "taking the road less traveled by" or something similar.

Um... i really like the idea of a simple phrase across the inner wrists. You can always see it, but it's fairly easy to cover with a watch or something.

www.bmeink.com has a catagory specifically for words and phrases. you can also look up inspiring quotes on the internet, or if you have a phrase that has just gotten you through a lot, use that one.

As for the people that say you'll regret it, as long as you really think about it and it's placement, you aren't going to regret an inspiring tattoo. Just make sure you really really want it. When you do find the quote you want to use, start writing it on your body in different places. Wait for at LEAST 6 months, always keeping the phrase nearby and in your vision. If you still like it, get it done. Make sure you go to a great artist so it will look exactly like you want it to.

Good luck!

I agree with ash...or you could have like a road that splits and there are 2 paths you can take, and under that picture, the words "finding the right path" or "trying to find the right path" in japanese. It would look pretty cool!

think about this

you are about 32 years old you are interviewing for a job and they see this tattoo, if they have a chose between you and another person with same qualifications, believe me they will take the other person.

unless you are going to put this tattoo somewhere where no one but you will see it then don't do it.
also when you are older , you will regret it.
other than boob jobs one of the number one cosmetic re-do's people are having in their 30's and 40's are tattoo removals.
