This case of semantics is necessary to imply that the believers don't die. Both semantics reinforce the other. It's quite simple.

It is after the event of death strictly speaking, How it continues is up to the folk still living, how they remember their dead. Most family honour their dead more than when that person was alive, and the idea of going to a better place eases their consciences. When I die, afterlife to me will be the legacy I leave behind to the family on earth, what I taught them and the generations of knowladge handed down by my tree. I expect I will never know, but can guess by what family who have died and the bits I recall all the time. An example is a certain song will remind you of someone passed away and for that moment, that person is really close to you in thought and spirit etc, and very much alive.

It is another con of the religious orders like their fire and brimstone and burning in hell if your are not good in this life.
In the 13c & 14c the only people who could read and write were the clergy, so they had the peasants in the palms of hands and could tell them all sorts of lies to keep them in line.
But we are now in 21c most of us can not only read and write but can fathom things out for ourselves.
If you believe in the Big Bang then you cannot believe any of this religious clap trap.

It sounds logical to me. What else would you call it, existance maybe? But I believe there will be so much more, so it is the beginning of real life, for eternity.

An excellent observation. However it's just a matter of phraseology.
