Ive researched it, and it doesnt seem so bad, so im going to have it done to my kitten, my parents are making me either declaw, or get rid of, so declaw is the only option, i am NOT going to get rid of my cat, so can anyone tell me how much it usually costs, and has anybody had this done to their cat, does it work good?

Look, I worked as an intern at a vets for a year we did many declaws and you know what, I have three who are declawed, if it is between life or give them away, do it. BUT you can never let them out on their own again remember that, you are going to have people give you a hard time on here so be prepared. Just do it the old fashioned way, it is easy if they are kittens and they are ok in about a week, they heal well and they grow up not knowing they had claws, my cats are 12 years old and are happy loving sweet babies, I have no regrets. They still think they have claws. do it and keep your cat. just don't listen to the awful things people are going to say to you. Be brave and do it. You will be able to bring your kitten home the next day, there are no stitches and the bandages come off as the kitten takes them off it's self. Find a good vet that is used to doing it. Stay away from new procedures like laser go with the traditional ways. new procedures may be more harmful in the long run, no way to know long term effects since they are new. good luck I am happy and so are my kitties. xxxx cat lover for all my life

Usually $500 for laser declaw and an additional $250 if the vet messes up the procedure (make sure you find a vet who has done the laser procedure more than just a few times - it takes practice!). By the way, I adopted a cat from the humane society that was declawed by its previous owner. Previous owner apparently still wasn't satisfied so she just dumped the cat. After taking care of him for the past couple of months, I must admit, I'd never have this procedure done on a cat (of course, I didn't have my son circumcised either, lol). He can't climb anything! But to each his own... take good care of your cat and all will be well.

It's a shame to think that your parents value their furniture more than a living being in their house.
You need the vet to explain everything to you, the negatives are a LONG list.
If you have reasearched it and still think its "not that bad" I truely feel sorry for your kitten!

I will lecture you because, as a cat lover, I won't stay quiet when you are about to do something HORRIBLE to your cat.

Have you also researched alternatives? Like soft paws?

And to answer your question: You will have to call your local vets as the cost of the procedure varies from office to office. I would expect to spend a few hundred bucks though....Hmmm..Scratching post: 20 bucks.....Soft Paws....10 bucks....Not only could you be doing the right thing by not getting him declawed, you could be saving a bundle of money!

I don't even read the responses to declaw questions anymore! I work for a vet and we use laser to declaw. It is much less painful, no bleeding, no bandages, and they go home the same day. There is foot tenderness for a week or two (like from any surgery) but we use 2 very good pain medications and our patients do wonderfully. I have no problem with declawing cats if its the only way they will have a home. It is NOT like removing the end of your finger, it is cutting the ligament and a tiny piece of bone that holds the claw on. By the way, we charge around $250.00. for everything.

USE THE ALTERNATIVE: soft claw caps...it's glued onto the cat's claw and stays on for about 4-6 months. Pleeeeease consider it.

and where are you researching the declawing procedure? it you type in declawing on google, almost all the websites are discouraging you from declawing.

pleeease look into the alternative. thank you.

I'm with everyone else. This cat would be much better of in someone's home who respects animals and doesn't mutilate them. I'm sure if you could ask the cat it would MUCH rather choose living elsewhere than having it's toes severed for your animal-hating parents. I've had cats all my life and not a single one of them has ever damaged my furniture. They use their cat scratching posts and I trim their nails regularly.

If you didn't want to come on here for a "lecture" then why didn't you just call your vet instead of letting everyone know how selfish and cruel your family is?

A couple hundred, but I can't even start to tell you all the hoors o declawing how would you like to live with out toes or fingers. Try soft paws first. Ihave seen so many cat euthanized because they were declawed and stoped using their litterbox or started biting it alsop shortens their life because they get severe arthritis. Hey its illegal in several countries including england beacause its in humane and extremly painful. Trust me I have seen the other side.

how can u say its pain-free? u obviously HAVNT researched it or u wouldnt want to get them declawed! u think it wouldnt hurt to live without ur fingers at the first joint from the top cut off? ur trying to tell ppl not to lecture u, yet how can we not when we no someone about to cause pain to a kitten? u dont know that the kitten isnt going to bleed. u dont know the absolute outcome of what this is going to do to ur kitten? how about u post a Q saying u need help persuading ur parents to keep ur kittens claws? it dosnt seem so bad to YOU because ur not the one getting chopped up!! cats are meant to keep their claws. its their only way of defense. "hmmm..cutting off my kittens fingers dosnt seem so bad.. tell me..has anyone else cut off thier fingers!!!" stop the abuse! if u have to, make ur self suffer and get rid of ur kitten instead of being selfish and doing to her/him!!!

hmph. im ashamed of what humans find themsleves doing to animals these days..

edit: U HAVNT RESEARCHED IT OR UD NO THAT NOT EVERY SINGLE PROCEDURE GOES RIGHT!!! HERE WE ARE TELLING U THAT IT DOSNT ALWAYS WORK AND UR SAYING IT DOES WHEN U HAVNT DONE IT YET!!! USE THE MONEY TO BUY NEW FURNITURE INSTEAD!!!. if u knew what u were doing then ud no CATS CAN BE TRAINED TO NOT SCRATCH THE FURNITURE. ud rather just cut of ur cats fingers than waste the time to train ur cat? IS THAT RIGHT?

edit: even if it is pain free. how can u put ur pet thru that? even if it dosnt hurt one little bit, and nothign will go wrong, u wouldnt want to cut off ur fingers either! so plz!, dont do it!

edit: y take the risks that rnt necessary? u just dont care, do u?

You should be ashamed of yourself. A choice between "give the cat away" or "mutilate the cat" isn't a real choice. Do what's best for the cat and find him a new home with people who'll take care of him.
