8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, h“What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord the third day?”
9 Then Isaiah said, i“This is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?”
10 And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten 1degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees.”
11 So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the Lord, and jHe brought the shadow ten 2degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz.

Gideon's example is the strongest one of someone asking God for a sign. I'm thinking other "less obvious" examples would include Abraham, Moses, and Ezekiel. I will let you dig into your Bible to see if I am right.

Interesting, I just read Gideon's story a couple days ago. In the Gospels, the crowds that follow Jesus and the Sanhedrin are always asking Jesus to do something miraculous so that they can believe in him. In mockery, a lot of the crowd jeers at Jesus to save himself so that they will believe, so Matthew 27:40 might be one place.

The Pharisees:

Matthew 16:1,4 - The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. ... A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

The disciples

Matthew 24:3 - And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
