I will be picking up my Papillon puppy next week. He will be 8 weeks old. I'm a little worried about his ears. I have papers which state that he's a purebred, and I know that doesn't mean much but... he's also registered with the AKC. I feel like his ears should be a little bigger than they are. His nose looks a bit wide as well (in the pics in the link don't mistake the white near his nose for his nose). Is this normal and will his ears grow as he gets older? He's pretty fuzzy which I like and he's very cute with good markings. His ears are really my only concern. He's only going to be a family pet but I want people to recognize him as a papillon. I already paid for him becuase the pictures of him that are really little look very normal. The older picture is him at almost 7 week. (maybe 6 weeks and 5 days.) I still want him just want to know if his ears are normal! Thanks for you help.

that is normal. because of its small size, it means small ears, nose, tail, ect. the ears will grow as the puppy's age grows.

hope this helps ^_^

From the AKC standard and from pictures of champion dogs, this puppy's ears are NOT correct. He should have much larger and wider ears. There is a drop ear version called a "Phalene" but the ears are still suppose to be large. He does have the butterfly pattern on his head that is correct but his muzzle seems to heavy. If this is a true purebred he is just not show quality, since he is to be a pet then thats what you are buying a pet quality pup that does not have all the traits needed for the breed. Some breeders will decrease price for pet pups (some don't). You can see the breed standard on the Papillion club site www.papillionclub.org or go to www.infodog.com and look up Paps to see true dogs of the correct standard, There are some unscrupulous breeders that will have Paps and long haired Chihuahuas...cross them and sell them as Paps or they have breeding mistake and register them as Paps to get the $$.

Um, I hate to tell you this, but that is NOT a papillon. I don't care what papers you got, some other dog mated with the female or something, because I've owned and worked with Paps for years and that is NOT a Pap. At all. His entire body, head, face, ears, everything is all wrong. If you can't get your money back, I'm sorry, I don't know what the deal is with that breeder, but that dog is not purebred.

Is our pup at about the same age. His parents were show champions. You can see his entire bone structure is different from the pup they're selling you. And he looks about the same now but bigger and with longer hair. Ear size and bone structure don't change with age. If you want him, go for it, but be aware that he's just not going to look like a real Papillon, ever. And I doubt anyone will recognize him for one.

would love to help you i have 2 paps, but your link doesnt work. says that the file has been deleted.

edit- so i got it to work and that is so NOT a papillon. i am not sure what he is but a papillon he is not. do they breed other dogs where you purchased him from? see if you can get your money back and get a pap from a REPUTABLE breeder or rescue and not one that breeds multiple types of dogs.
