There always seems to be a film that I cannot remove.
Any ideas?

Spray them with vinegar and scrub with scrunched news paper. Spray again and polish with a fresh sheet of news paper. If they are really high windows, use a power washer with a good commercial detergent.

there are new spray cleaners out there that you can hook to a garden hose and go to town on the windows.
can't recall the brands but if you check in lowes or walmart or such like that you should be able to find them.
it's in a bottle like the ones you use to spray your yard with liquid fertilizer or weed killer...
