I don't know for sure. Some people say it takes years, but I don't believe that. Try chewing a piece of gum and eating peanut butter at the same time. The gum will dissolve. (It's really icky, but it does dissolve).

Once I thought I'd test to see how long you could keep chewing the same piece of gum. It took about a day and a half. I saved the gum overnight and chewed it again the next day...also icky, but it did eventually dissolve. :P

So those who say it takes years ought to test it out and see for yourself.
:)

p.s. the person who said this is probably right. It may take the actual chewing action and/or mixing with the food to get it to dissolve, like it did for me.

"Your stomach doesn't digest gum at all. Since it's made out of soluble fiber, chewing gum passes right through us. So gum comes out with the rest of your waste, usually a day or two after you eat it. "

Most people will say 7 year just becaus thats what you learn when you are little but i was watching oprah the other day and Dr.Oz was on and someone asked this question and he said
"gum is digested as fast as most other foods (not the seven years that your mom had you believe)." any were from 4-12 hours or 2-3 days.

Chewing gum is a polymer which does not get digested; it passes through the digestive tract.
