My dog had puppies 3 months ago and it looks like she is in heat. I am not sure if I can breed her right now or not. Some people tell me that you have to wait 6 months, but some say "the next time she goes in heat" so please let me know this as soon as possible.

Get her spayed and quit using her as an ATM machine.

Your animal is in heat and can become pregnant now.

My question to you would be why you wish to breed another litter?
Responsible breed specific owners generally breed no more than 2 times a year. Before doing so, responsible homes have already put down a deposit to ensure safe placement.

This is a costly effort if done properly.Vet visits, special diets & vitamins etc.
The pups need vet care and vaccines as well.

There was no mention of the age, breed or health of your dog either. All of this must be taken into account.

Generally breeding is best left to the experts with means & knowledge to do so.
With so many homeless, abandoned & shelters overflowing with unwanted pets-would always recommend sterilizing your animal. It doesn't take long for her pups to multiply & add to the problem.
If we wish to stop & create a no kill society, we need to be responsible owners.

Dogs can also become pregnant from more than one animal. This may create genetic problems or you may not be breeding a good temperament for placement either.

Ask your mum if she wanted to be pregnant again as soon as her cycle started after she had you. NO, NO, NO! That's how puppy farmers behave. If your are a kennel club registered breeder, I think the gap is 18 months to 2 years between litters. The mother has to get her health and strength back. Her coat will be depleted too from having the puppies. She needs to be in tip top condition before you would even think of mating her again.

No, you don't want to breed her again yet.. You should wait at very least a year.. Here's the thing.. You want her to get back to tip top shape.. That way when she goes to whelp her next litter, she has good strong stomach muscles back and is able to push the puppies out herself, and isn't likely to get all worn out and give up.. Then you are looking at a c-section cause she hasn't the strength to produce a pup...

PLUS the better shape she is in, the better quality puppies ( healthwise, nothing to do with conformation ) she is going to produce, better immune systems and everything else..

Unless there is a really really really good reason why, you shouldn't breed her back to back ( one litter after another )
Puppy mills breed their females over and over again and never allow them to get back to shape.. If you love your dog, and I can only assume that you do ??? Then you'll allow her to become healthy again and right back to pre litter shape so she can produce the best litter she can.. Otherwise none of it is worth it.

Did she thrive being a mom or conflict....fairly, your vet may be the final to make this decision. once you're uncertain...Our vet recommend that this is ok to reproduce each and every warmth cycle while they're youthful yet by skill of age 4 we could desire to constantly breed another cycle and retire while they turn 6...i think of however this is relies upon on the guy mom. If she's returned to everyday weight or slightly greater and is genuinely healthful, this is probable ok to reproduce her returned....if she's nonetheless "convalescing" from her first muddle (no longer as much as weight, coat no longer returned to pre being pregnant difficulty, and so on....you're able to watch for her next cycle....this is great to get your vet in contact on your breeding software..

As a breeder that cares for his dogs,i never let them whelp more than once a year, and stop breeding at three litters. The quality of life for a ***** goes down hill if she's treated as a "puppy mill" female......George

Well, it depends -- do you want to treat her like a puppy-making machine, or your pet and companion?

No female dog should be bred on the next heat cycle after a litter. Give her at least a year...or, better yet, spay her.

AFTER YOU HAD PUPS???? That would be interesting!! If you mean "after your dog had pups" I like to let them bypass heat at least once. Give the poor momma a rest and recuperation time.

When the dog re cycles, her body is saying she is ready. However, you need to look at overall condition, weight normal, fotr the breed etc. It would be poor management of your pet to breed her if she wasn't ingood general health.
This heat cycle is very early, and be a false alarm.

She should be a pet, not a puppy machine. Get her spayed as soon as possible, it will be beneficial to her health as well as preventing any more puppies coming into the world when there are enough unwanted dogs needing homes already.

Its best to let her have a rest. Having a litter of puppies takes a lot out of her.
So please give her a break, or you risk her getting seriously ill. If you dont believe me call your Vet and talk it over with them.
