i'm pagan i would LOVE to homeschool my kids, but we just couldn't afford to have me stay at home.
many pagans do homeschool their kids. not to shelter them, but to give them a better education.
most homeschooled children outdo their public schools peers.
now, if you're talking about christians who homeschool their kids and half of it is religion based, well that's just freaky!
oh, and fyi, homeschoolers have peer groups that do field trips together and other things. it doesn't kill their social skills. kids also have neighbours, family members their own age and join baseball teams!

Um. I went to grad school with 200 teachers to be, and while they have teaching certs, I'm not sure they are qualified.
I just mention this as a point of order, but when I went to High School I was taught sciences by profs from a local uni who took up a high school class or three for quick easy $$$$.
Under no child left behind, those ph.ds weren't qualified to teach me until 2-3 years later if I was a College student in their class.
Teaching certs mean nothing, but homeschooled kids should be tested like everyone else, including in BIO.

You'd be surprised at the number of groups that have been established to help and support homeschooling. They have all the resources at their disposal regular schools do, and a few more. It might surprise you to find out that many who are home schooled rank higher on test scores than those taught in both public and private schools. I taught my son for two years. When he returned to public school he was farther ahead than the rest of the class. My sister taught several of her children. The same happened when they returned to public schools. Just because someone has a teaching degree does not mean they will be better at the job than someone who has a personal commitment to the student on a much deeper level.

Ok, I'm not a Christian parent who homeschools my kids ... but do you really think teachers are that qualified just because they have a "certificate"? Have you even been to school? Most of what they teach in lower grades is basically common knowledge -- as far as what they do when their kids reach high school age most homeschool parents will get a group of homeschool kids together and use parents who are knowledgable in particular subject areas such as math and science. Otherwise, many of them send their kids to community colleges so they can learn things like Calculus and Physics that their parents might not know. I went to a community college and met a lot of homeschool kids there who seemed really intelligent and well prepared. One of my homeschooled friends transferred to Cal Tech when he was 18 and he already had a lot of college credit from the community college.

My parents were going to homeschool my brother and me but we were tested by the local school, as per laws back then, and needed gifted and special needs teaching so they decided not to since they didn't even have GEDs and were unwilling to do the reading required; they would have expected us to breeze through the workbooks and whatnot without them reading the instructions or explaining things to us. (It's what happened in other schools later on anyway, but that's beside the point.)
I think it's wrong to try to homeschool kids if you don't even know how to do algebra or read French yourself...and even more so if you have a great difficulty LEARNING new subjects and a disinterest in teaching anything except bible knowledge. I realize good teachers do not know "everything" anyway, but they are also good learners, and if parents are unwilling to learn certain subjects, such as mythology, then they should not be allowed to homeschool.

I am not a parent, nor was a I homeschooled. But my children will have private tutors because the public school system is horrible for teaching. I just graduated high school and as I look back, I don't think I learned anything useful.
I learned all the basics, and all the nonsense, but the hard stuff like algebra and physics....I don't remember anything from those classes....

wow...For you to call home schoolers ignorant is by far the most hypocritical statement I have read all day!
I went to public school and all the teacher had time to do was try to get the kids to sit down and be quiet. It took years of her life to get a certificate to do that all day.
When we started homeschooling, I learned on my level. I was able to take my time, do my work right, and passed with flying colors.
And all before noon.
And let's see..what did I miss out on by not going to "real" school? Peer pressure to drink and do drugs. Becoming sexual active, potentially pregnant or worse at a very young age. Being passed through classes where I did not learn anything because the teacher had to be careful about hurting my self esteem.
I am proud of the fact I was home schooled and will teach my own children.

The majority of kids that are home schooled are receiving better educations, do better on SAT's then those who go to public schools. The only ones who do better the home schooled kids are those in private schools. Parents receive the curriculum of what is to be taught and they teach their kids. Most people who home school belong to like a group of parents that also home school and help each other. Its not that hard to teach kids what they need to know to graduate and go to college. Why is public school teachers seem to have such a difficult time doing it?

Most of the people that I know that choose to homeschool is because they went to public school and they know how it is. not all Homeschoolers are christians either. and almost all homeschools teach the same things that are taught in private schools. homeschoolers are tested every year the same way everyone else is.
I've been homeschooled all my life, and I have plenty of social skills and a ton of friends. whether you are homeschooled or not has nothing to do with if you are social or not, think of all the people that do go to public school that have no social skills.
I am not putting public school down, but to each his own.

I thought that they were taught by that Cyberschool thingamabob, w/ real teachers????
i seriously dont know how it works...
Stop bugging parents, they may have other reasons why they don't want their children to go to public school whether they are good reasons or not keep your nose out of other's buisness!
Personally, If I had kids, I would send them to public school, where they would get real life experience, and develop needed social skills. But that is just my opinion!
Also, God COULD give them the teaching skills needed, but not just because they wanted it. God knows what is best, and and He will do what is best. Our lives our predetermined by God, and if He wants homeschooled kids to be homeschooled, so be it!
\o/ Praise God!!!! \o/
