I'm looking for a program where I have a variety of backgrounds that I can use. I want to insert pictures (digital) of my students into different backgrounds, allowing different holidays or hobbies etc. for them to choose. For example a great football background and insert the students picture in it, so as to look like he's really on the field etc..

Photoshop would definatly be your best bet, it would be easiest to crop and edit pictures in photoshop and it is very simple to use after a little expirementing

It's simple to cut and paste, but DIFFICULT to make it look right. You have to muck with the lighting, shadows, and variety of minute details. There is no "pushbutton" programs that'll fix up all that for you.
Adobe Photoshop is your best bet, but that costs an arm and a let (about $500 retail).
