2007-07-04 10:01:19 · answer #3 · answered by ? 2 · 0 0

1. ¿Qué hora es? = "What time is it?"

2. Es la.... = "It is......" This is used when telling time and referring to one o'clock only, either AM or PM. For example: "Es la una de la mañana." = It is one (o'clock) in the morning. "Es la una de la tarde." = It is one (o'clock) in the afternoon.

3. Son las.... = "It is......" This is again used when telling time, but reffers to any time on the clock except one o'clock, which is as above. For example: "Son las ocho de la noche." = It is eight PM.

4. ...y media = "....and a half" ....this again refers to telling time, it is used to denote the half hour in Spanish....when telling time you don't use the word for thirty, which is "treinta," you use "y media" instead. For example: It is twelve thirty in the afternoon. = "Son las doce y media de la tarde." Literally tanslated as: It is twelve and a half in the afternoon.

5. ....y cuarto = ".....and a quarter" ......again, as in telling time, it denotes the quarter hour. Rather than saying fifteen in English. For example: It is three fifteen. = "Son las tres y cuarto." Literally translated as: It is three and a quarter.

6. ....menos.... = "....minus....." This is used in Spanish to denote any fraction of the hour beyond the half hour. In Spanish for any time beyond the 30 minute mark, you go to the next hour and subtract the number of minutes needed to arrive at the time that you want. For axample, if you want to say: It is 10:45 AM.....in Spanish you would say: "Son las once menos cuarto de la mañana." Literally translated this means: "It is eleven minus a quarter in the morning." This is the correct way to tell time in Spanish. Another example. If you want to say: It is 7:37....in Spanish you would say: "Son las ocho menos veintitres minutos." Litreally translated as: "It is eight minus twentythree minutes."

7. el cuerpo = "the body"

8. la cabeza = "the head"

9. la naríz = " the nose"
