I can't seem to get used to the idea that I'm not part of a circle of friends close enough to want to include me in their holiday plans. I get very involved in self-pity at times like this. Is this normal? What can I do about it?

Surviver, I can see you mean well, but if there was anyone to invite over, I would have done it. I guess the main thing is to try to develop a circle of friends before Labor Day.

AuntB, I have absolutely zero friends here where I live, also. I do have family, so I'm one up on you. I do needlework to keep busy when I'm not on Yahoo!Answers or looking through the blogs.

When I get cabin fever, I walk over to the mall and sit in the coffee shop/book store. There are a lot of people there, and some of them actually want to talk.

Once upon a time, I organized a book club at my house, and I put up a notice on the bulleton board at the book store. I had a dozen people once a week at my house. As far as I know, the club is still going strong. (I moved away).

I have also found people to be with in the social club I belong to,(Mensa). When ever I want to, I could attend one of their meetings. Since I usually don't like going out, I rarely do, but I get the monthly newsletter with activities I could choose from.

you just shouldn't stop trying to find someone to spend it with. sooner or later you're going to meet that lucky one, and you can be happy together forever. and yes it's normal to feel self-pity when alone or sad, i do all the time. i guess the best way to help this situation is maybe you should invite someone ove?? i mean, if they won't, you might as well right!! throw a party, and get to know new people! it will suck at first, but it'll work trust me!! best of luck. :]

Hey its ok... it happens to me too, cos' I don't really like being noisy and all (you find 'me' pretty different from TheBear you see in Yahoo Answers).

Most of the time I spend my time with the closest friend of mine and that's how I pass my day.

I can relate to you, and I feel you... but that's how it goes :-)

Cheers! 10 Gummybear points for you :-)

Find something you enjoy doing and keep yourself occupied.
