If by "bad" you mean "societal-bad" or "held to today's societal standards, I am not bad", then yes that is possible. Even if many of the remaining standards in society are still Christian, it is still possible for a non-Christian to follow them--all people are made in the image of God and are capable of good.

But "bad" and "good" are not arbitrary things that society or society's leaders set. If they were, then while Hitler was running Germany rescuing Jews was "Bad" and killing Jews was "Good." Likewise, in countries where slavery was/is still accepted, slavery would be "Good." But we all go around declaring killing Jews and having slaves is Bad, so there has to be some universal standard that is above society and society's rules that declares what is Bad and Good. It is this same standard that "inaeliable rights" comes from--rights that human beings have and that nobody else has the right to take away.

How do we know this universal standard? Well, part of it is from general human nature: after all the Bible says human beings were made in the image of God and are thusly capable of good, even if we are distorted by Original Sin. The other part is revelation: the Bible. Thus quite ironically when someone in today's society (especially in western countries but ever-increasingly in non-western ones) says they are "good," they are actually comparing themselves to a warped edition of the Biblical laws which have come to them through hundreds of years of history, even though they might not know it.

So, if you are comparing yourself to society's standards, you can indeed be a "good person" yet not Christian--by doing so, however, you admit that at least in part you are following Christian rules and manners of thought on right and wrong, because those are part of the society you are comparing yourself to.

If, on the other hand, you are comparing yourself to the eternal standard--which is really the one that matters, because the societal standard is eventually going to end--i hate to break it to you, but you are just as rotten, horrible, and twistedly evil as the rest of us (especially me).

P.S. i also used to be under the belief that i was "not a bad person" but after looking at myself a bit more open-mindedly and in a nonbiased way, i found that i was actually quite horrible. It's the little things i do that make me wicked, as well as the little things i don't do. I have also found that when people look at themselves in the same nonbiased way, they come to the same conclusion about themselves. I say this to you because when people refuse to recognize a problem they won't fix it: like a cancer patient who is in denial and refuses treatment. Problem is, problems don't go away. If you are as good as you say you are then you will at least open yourself to the possiblity that you could in some way be bad--even if it seems in only a little way in your life. I say this not because i want to be mean or because i want a response from you, but only to make you think about yourself a bit more, for whether Christian or not we all still have the duty to better ourselves and if we are under the impression we are already good, then we will become complacient in that quest and never reach the goodness that we, in our brief mortal lives, are capable of attaining.

Peace. :)

hmmm I don't think that your religous beliefs and your character go hand in hand. Do you do good things for people? Do you put others first? Do you surround yourself with positive influences? I think that you should ask yourself these questions in determining whether or not your a good person. Lets say if you met someone new... and religioun wasn't braught up... would they think... that was a good person? And if the person that you were talking to was a christian they wouldnt pass judgement on your beliefs! All sins are created equal, and doing Gods job of judging others is a sin. Just keep that in mind. I hope that this helped. Good luck.

You are not a bad person just because you are not a Christian.
That would be like saying that everyone born before the start of Christianity (or before the start of any other religion) was a bad person.
Religions are invented by people and are used to control other people by using fear - don't let them do it to you.
There are so many different religions and each one thinks that they are the only one which is right - how absurd!

if you can believe that in your heart then that's true. i have an atheist friend and i can say she's a good person because she cares so much about her kids, her family and her friends. religion doesn't make everyone a better person. i say, what you contribute to the society as a whole reflects of who you really are. your concept of what is right and wrong might differ from other person but if you don't do harm to other people, that's a good thing.

I am a Christian, that doesn't make me a good person. In fact, the bible says there are none good. The only one without sin was Jesus Christ. Everyone has sinned at some point in their lives (and we still do!). Being a Christian means you are sorry for your sins, that you have accepted Jesus as your savior, and you desire to walk a Godly path, living a righteous life. I fail every day, but I love Jesus and ask His strength again and again, to live how He wants me to.

I'm sure you are as good a person as anyone else. But without Jesus Christ, you will not be saved from your sins when you die. That really is the thing to think about.

You have to be kidding? Are you telling me that you never have bad moods? I am sure you are a bad person to be around sometimes?

Everybody has moods rangeing from good moods, passionate moods and ignorant moods.

Passionate moods come from wanting or desireing material things. Ignorant moods come from the mind creating delusions when you don't get what you desire, and so you go crazy.

Ergo, unless you stop wanting or desireing material things, you cannot be a 100% good person. Early Christians followed practices that led to the gradual renouncing of material desires. Nazarene's (Jesus' movement) did not own anything themselves but gave all their posessions to the commune. Modern Christians do not follow such doctrines so much. That is why modern Christians are sometimes bad people too.

You dont have to be religious to be a good person. I dont have a religion whatsoever as I think religion stinks and is a way of controlling and brainwashing people, making them sheep! I am a free person, what rubbish about being a saved person- its a stupid comment !

Lots of religious persons can be hypocrites and very pious! this type of thing makes me feel very sick! have you ever seen songs of praise-take a look at the ones singing hymns, I bet they are up to all sorts of weird s**t!

If there is a creator he/she or whatever its supposed to be! it aint what it says in the bible, the bible is a history book in a way but lots of Bul*S**t too! people need to read between the lines and take it with a pinch of salt! nobody has the right to try and brain wash me with rubbish!!!! I just wish some people had the strength of mind to say stick it where the sun dont shine!

You may not be a bad person and that is a good thing.
Being good or bad will determine where you reside when you pass over after death. Some people think that their deeds get them into heaven and if they are good, that is all they need to do. You will go to a place based on your deeds but your relationship with God is your own. If you are know a believer and not God in your heart and mind. Do you expect to be know by God when you turn your back and deny God.
If you have another religion and have God then it is still between you and him. At least you have a bond and he knows you heart. Jesus said my sheep know me and I know my sheep. He said what you bind on Earth, I also Bind in Heaven. He said that what God gives him, God will not take away. So if he is your Savior then you will be known.
If you are a Muslim, I feel you will still go to heaven if you Love the Father God Allah. I see faith as a mountain with a home at the top. There have been many messengers to help us get home and they killed them. Jesus was not the first messenger as he speaks of in the bible. He was the son the father sent after the messengers and they still killed him.
When will they ever learn. There are many paths to the top of the mountain and as long as you get there, fine. Jesus said I am one of the ways. I teach you the truth and the about the way home. If you trust in me I will show you the way and you will be welcome. He said he went to prepare a place for those who would follow after he left. He said his father house has many mansions. There is one for everyone. God wishes none to parish, but that is our choice. You have a promise from Jesus of paradise by your faith in his word by following him. There is no promise in Islam because it says God shows mercy on those he pleases. Jesus teaches that all are welcome and our sins will be forgiven and our souls will be washed clean as snow. If your God does not promise you this than you may still go to heaven as I see it but through Jesus you are assured a place.
