I can't complain about being treated like crap while I was in. There's a saying: Rank Has It's Privileges. Our commander was a former enlisted puke like the rest of us, and he didn't mind going out and getting dirty. He made sure we ate first and had the best equipment he could secure. When we had a promotion or award, he was the first one standing in line to congratulate us and shake our hands. That's not to say he wouldn't knock our d&*ks in the dirt if we screwed up.

I don't think they treat there enlisted like crap, its just that they don't get special treatment. I was enlisted and you can tell its two different worlds both with PROS and CONS. I would say that enlisted people although they are the core of the military are easily replaced or recycled. Where as the Officers are invested in. Its amazing that our military is so sucessful when you stop and think about the average Lieutenant who doesn't know anything... But by the time they make Captain they seem like they were born to do this job,, well most of the time

I'm a warrant and I get treated nothing like a god. The reason you may think they're treated so well is cause you never see an officer yetting yelled at or smoked, but trust me it happens behind closed doors, by the company or battalion commander. Most officers will do anything possible to get ahead or a good mark on their OER, they don't really care who the step on along the way, you don't get that with NCO's

they call em grunts for a reason. i have always been somewhat amused by stories people have told me after they got out of the military. officers are some sadistic twisted people that set themselves up as gods. i don't think the military in and of itself honors its officers that much. it used to be a well paying career. now you just get to yell at 18 yr olds and take out some twisted pyscho-sexual fantisies out on them.
you expected them to live up to the stuff they told you about the military when you enlisted? i guess a lot of people do. i never thought of military as an option but know a few people that did think they would get an education or something out of it only to land back in the real world with no skills the real world accepted as a skill.
welcome to the united states. everyone will tell you the support you until you need support -- then they scatter like cockroaches.

it depend on your unit, because Ive seen some, and heard about some officers that will be the first in line to send their soldiers to war but are the first to want to be assigned to rear-d. Aswell as some that are real quick to nominate themselves for awards they dont deserve. Im lucky enough to be in a pretty laid back unit where the NCO's take care of their soldiers. I have my sham shield (e-4) right now so you know how that goes. Get the privates to do the dirty work and dont have as much responsibility as the e-5's do!

cuz they're enlisted? That's the point. Officers are told to make the tough decisions, wheras the grunts follow orders. That's the point of Chain of Command

Individuals do that, the military as a whole does not support that. But you are correct, and then they wonder why some people won't re-enlist?

That only happens under poor leadership...
... of if a 'bad' soldier misperceives corrective action as persecution.
Now, I will admit that officers sometimes make poor decisions out of fear that a soldier will do something to get them a bad mark on their OER. But as an NCO, I always tried to 'talk some sense into them.'

You ever hear the old saying that s-h-i-t rolls down hill, are you sure you opinion is not colored by a poor attitude on your part? If you don't have the proper attitude it will affect your time in.
