i was at a fireworks show yesterday for 4th of July Eve. and it had several food stands my dad and i went to the mexican food stand and bought some food for ourselves and my brother. we ordered the food my dad left to go find my brother who was saving a spot for us, after our order was ready i went out to find my brother and dad eventually i did on the other side of the park; but we didnt have any forks. so i went off with my food in hand to go get some forks. i went to the nearest vendor to grab some forks and said playfully: " im going to steal some forks is that ok?" and i reach out but the man there stops me and says "i cant let you do that; you need to go to the place where you bought your food." (which was on the other side of the park.) so i just give him a wierd look and walk off and go get my forks at the mexican stand.
i found it completley ridicoulous that the man wouldnt let me grab some gosh darn forks. and i mean it wasnt like he had 5 or 6 left he had several dozen.

Each vendor pays for his own. I guess he didn't want to give away forks to someone who didn't buy food at his stand. It was his right, like it or not.

You have to take into consideration the fact that the utensils are part of the vendor's overhead. I doubt the profit margin is too high on one of these food stands anyway and it gets even smaller when everyone who forgot the fork for their potato salad takes one from your stand. Admittedly, the forks probably didn't cost much and since you had your food "in hand", the guy should have assumed that you did purchase your food at the venue. I can't really hold it against the guy, but I see your point.

No he was not rude. You were.
If he charged you .5 cents a piece would you have paid, or gone back to the original vendor or would you think you would have paid a different vendor.
Their money is not comming out of a collective pocket.

They only have a certain amount of forks and they go to the people who actually bought their food, it comes with the meal, its not for free. On the other side of the park, oh no!!!! Get over it, eat with your fingers then.

He pays for those forks out of his profit, which you did not contribute to. Why should he give you a fork??

Yes, you were rude. What if that vendor (who is trying to make a living so he can put food on the table for HIS children) took a few things from you? Would that be OK?

I can understand why you would be frusterated with that, but keep in mind that you were at a VERY busy event. The vendor was trying to please his customers by trying to make sure that he had supplies for the people buying food from him.

Gosh...that's ridiculous. It's just forks. It's not like your stealing food or something like that.

You weren't rude to him. The man was being rude to you. He probably wouldn't give it to you because he probably thought that u were a person who was gonna take his forks and play with them like little kids.
