If Allah judges this way can he be a righteous God and overlook bad things a man does? Wouldn't a righteous God find any sin too much sin?

Sen B. You are speaking a truth from the Bible, All have sinned...the Qu'ran says Christ was without sin..Holy and faultless. Can you explain why? the Bible says all have sined and falllen short of the glory of God but Chrsit was sinless and did atone for sin. Chrsit was God in the flesh therfore perfect.. why does the Qu'ran teach he was without sin??

yunaaisha How does that work? If amn sins he can become sinless...does the sin somehow go away or does Allah overlook sin? we who believe in the atonement understand our sins are apid by the aotnement and therfore we becoewm sinless bucause the price is paid,,, how does this work wiht allah wihtout an aotnement eh simply forgives sin? does this somehow mean you didnt sin? Or is Allah becoming unrighteous agreeing with your sin overlooking it?

Canx I'm not sure what type of Christian you fancy yourself but I must strongly disagree. We are saved only by the atonement we are not judged accordng to any good deeds and we trutly have none we are judged unrighteous by God and God himself did pay the penalty of death for us.

Outer if Allah does judge one sin as a lesser sin doesnt it mean Allah finds some sins more agreeable... God is perfect he cant agree with any sin therfore they are all judged equally evil.
All sins are death...There are not lesser penaltys because in order to have lesser penalties God would have to think there are lesser sins which means he isnt perfect some sin is acceptable.
The God that i believe in doesn not judge sin in degree for the reason he is perfect and accepts only perfection..All sin equals death but the penalty of death he paid himself because the true God is both toally righteous but also totally merciful.

Sen b. If you were to take God's word for it you would believe the word of God and his prophets and not the word of man who claimed to be a prophet if it disagreed with the word of God that was beforte him. the true word of God does teach the atonement which only could be provided by God.

Outter thanks for your kind response. I do not follow schloars of any religion but do trust God and his word and he reveals his truth to me. many Muslims do believe tha all prophets are snless but when asked they tend to say again degrees of sinlessness. the Quran itelsf teaches only of the sinlessness of Christ
Allah intructs Muhamamd to pary for forgiveness...The Hadiths show Muhammad's prayers of forgiveness..
Moses himslef parys for forgiveness in the Qu'ran and yet 19:19 reveals Christ was without sin. Christ was without sin for good reason in the true word of God as only a righteous one could atone for sin and the only righteous one is God.

Sen b. First Christ never foretold of Muhammad..or any prophet that disagreed with his word or the other prophets but to say there would be false prophets, Second if you believed in all of God's word and his prophet you would have to agree with Jesus and his deity. Jesus did pray to his Father and was in submission to his Father in heaven. Jesus is the Son of God and is a part of the whole of God. therfore Yes Jeus is god and he did pray ot his Father in heaven who is also a part of the whole of God...they are ONE God... Now understand the meaning of Chrsit praying ot the Father...do you ever do what you do not agree with? A Christian would refer to it as being strong in the spirit but weak in the flesh. We are taught to put our flesh in submission to our spirit. Chris wastempted as man and depended on his Father in heaven who is an eternal spirit to remain perfect and to do the will of the Father

Shaf...If we do any sin can we then become righteous are are we not always a sinner? If we do what aman considers good does that take away the sin? Or are we not still a sinner? If we are all sinners and God says its okay we are forgiven is God himslef not compromiseing his righteouness agreeing to a degree with our sin?
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and the wages of sin..not some sin but any sin is death. God in his mercy did pay the peanlty of death for those who accept the atonement. god does not forigve sin by agreeing wiht it but remains righteous in paying the penalty for you.

Outter When Moses prayed for forgiveness after killing a man was this simply an error? In 19:19 does this mean Jesus was Holy? Sinless? Muhamamd did not pray about errors but clearly prayed for forgiveness for his sins. The Qu'ran does not teach that any man includng prophets are sinless but does teach Christ was sinless.

From what I have learnt Allah is the fairest of judges. This means that every persopn will be rewarded/punished for their actions. A person will be rewarded for their good deeds and punished for their bad deeds. Every sin is a sin no matter how big or small it is and justice will prevail. On the day of reckoning even a righteous man (as u have described) will have to answer for his bad deeds.
There are methods to repent though. If it was a sin against God eg not giving charity then you will have to answer to God for this and pray to him for forgiveness and atone for it while you are alive. If you have committed a sin against a human then you will have to seek forgiveness from that human while you are alive. If you have stole/usurped/spread lies/ affected the marital life of someone/ caused grief to someone etc then you will have to seek their forgiveness now else you will have to pay them back in the afterlife i.e. you will have to give up the rewards of your good deeds to them as compensation.
Please check with your local scholar for more information. Everything that I have said that is incorrect is from me and anything that I have said that is correct is from Allah. May HE forgive me for my sins and my shortcomings.
P.S. I also don't think that many of the knowledgable people on this subject use Yahoo Answers. It would be a good idea to post this question to a person like Yusuf Estes (www.islamtomorrow.com).
From my understanding, All the prophets of God are sinless. Islam also believes that Jesus is not God. We do not pray to him but we believe in his teachings. The Allmighty God is Allah and it is He who created Jesus just as he Created Mohammed and Moses. Allah is the creator of the stars, the galaxies, even of time itself.
As for atonement. Islam has a very specific way to seek atonement. It is not done through a confession to another human. God alone has that power to forgive. Praying for forgiveness (atonement) happens in the following way:
1. The person must sincerely repent from committing the sin in his heart with absolute regret.
2. It would be good if the person performs 2 rakaat nafl salaah asking for forgiveness (this is a form of worship which has a proper sturcture).
3. The person must never return to the sin
(See link below for more information)
Also do a google search for "sincere repentance". Chances are you will find most of the first 100 links referring to methods of repentance in Islam. Thats TONS of information!
---------------------------
Well Islamically, there is definately a distinction between the types of sins. There are minor sins and major sins. A minor sin would be for example swearing. A major sin would be murder and the punishment for each will be different. However there is always hope in Allahs mercy provided the person committing the crime repents properly. God is perfect and it is in His knowledge that He will mete out justice for sins. No man is perfect. It makes sense that sin is categorised else it wouldnt matter if you have a vulgar tongue or are a murderer.
I am very ill equipped to give any good answers here as I am not a master in the subject. It is best that a scholar provides the answer to this question.
----------------------------------
This is my last bit :-)
Islam teaches that all prophets of God are free of sin. They may not have been free of error though. One of the reasons that God commanded Prophets to pray is so that the followers of the religion would learn how to pray from the Prophets themselves.

Islam descended from the Abrahamic religions and was mixed with eastern philosophy. Muhammed, though he was a prophet, didn't live a very moral life at all. Jesus was more than a prophet and the Bible says that there was nothing that was not created that was was not created through HIM. In Islam unbelievers are to be killed, destroyed, etc...in Christianity God shows His love through Christians to love unbelievers where they are at in life. Jesus isn't based on rituals done certain times of the day, sun or moon worship, repition, etc...but is a personal, loving God.

Almighty God is The Best Knower. He is always aware of the good that we do and the bad that we do. If we do wrong and want to get back on the right track, then we must sincerely pray to The Almighty for His Forgiveness and His Mercy. We must strive daily to keep The Almighty in remembrance and do good.

As men and women we all sin there is none of us without sin regardless of religion. Allah is all seeing and all knowing and he knows we sin, he knows if we are truly repentant and he knows if our hearts are truly regretful and sorry. As Muslims every Ramadan we have the opportunity to ask Allah to forgive our sins. With pilgrimage to Mecca also we have the opportunity if performed properly for all our sins to be forgiven and us to be free of sin again just like a new baby. Its not a question of Allah "overlooking" our sins but forgiving us for being human and sinners if we are truly repentant.
Allah is after all "all forgiving and merciful".
EDIT
Jesus was not God but a prophet. You are free to believe what you like. Me? I'll be taking Gods word on that one.....
I believe in all Gods prophets and all his revelations. The bible and the Torah are Gods books and those who believe in them are of the books but God tells us in "his words" that Islam is the final religion and supersedes the previous two. If you are so stead fast in believing the words of Jesus you would know he said their will be one final prophet after me and his name will be Muhammad. Jesus was praying to God was he not? Are you therefor saying he was praying to himself? Come on now..........

Salam,
Only on the day of judgement shall we know the righteous from the bad. That is why backbiting is not allowed in Islam. So everyone, no matter what sins he commited, has the possibility to do enough good deeds to become "righteous", as you say.

"If a man does more good than bad" really depends on what is considered good or bad.
Remeber that in the end, our entering the heavens will be out of the Mercy of God, this life is no more then a test.
Peace.

With Christianity, we are not saved because our good deeds outweigh our bad deeds, and we are not damned because our bad deeds outweigh our good deeds, as if our eternal destiny depended upon some sort of balance scale.
We are judged on our love or lack of love - as love is defined as our willingness to go out of ourselves and procure the happiness and true good of the other person for *their* sakes and not for what we can get out of it - in other words, true love involves an ego transcendence
For Christains, Jesus Christ merited the grace for us to be loving, for it is only by His grace that it is possible for us to love - so salvation is a free gift in that we can only love by what we are given by God, but we have to fulfill the condition to use that properly as God wills by chosing to love (since to love or not to love is determined by how we use our free-will).
If we love others in life we go to heaven; if we don't love others, but are merely selfish, we go to hell.
Now generally, good deeds flow from a loving heart and evil deeds flow from a selfish heart.
But someone with a loving heart could do something wrong, because he honestly thought it was the right thing to do - God does not judge that person guilty of anything, since God (unlike man), does not punish anything that is purely a mistake, but punishes only bad will - one without love could do good deeds, but these would be done to give one a good self-image, to impress others, or even in an attempt to win points for heaven (but no actually caring for the object of their "care" for his or her own sake) - such people are damnable before God, and God does not reward good deeds as such, but only those motivated by love, as God *always* judges a person by what is in the heart.
It is said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, however, that is *precisely* the one thing that it cannot be paved with since it is good intentions that get us to heaven and bad ones that get us to hell.
