Well..it depends on what you mean by "puppy" Typically, you can stop feeding puppy food at 12 mos, but many breeds are still filling out after 12 mos of age and are still not considered and adult. It depends on the breed...but many large breeds are not considered mature until they are 3 years old. I have had cocker spaniels for many years and they are not considered an adult until about 18 mos-2 years. I would consider a male cocker spaniel at the age of 15-18 mos going through "puberty" At this age, thier male hormones have kicked in and they think they are "all that" .....like a teenager!!

Puppies gradually grow out of their puppy behavior over their first year of life. It definitely doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen faster with your guidance and training. Certain breeds will always remain active and playful though, and some breeds will also be power-chewers. It's best to know what the characteristics of a dog breed are before getting a puppy of that breed, and make sure you are prepared. Active dog breeds will always need tons of exercise, and power-chewers will always need lots of toys and rawhide bones, for example, and over their entire lives, not just the first year. Dogs make awesome pets! Best wishes!

It depends on the Breed and the dog in question. Large Breeds tend to mature physically later than the smaller breeds, sometimes not until they are 2 years old! Small breeds tend to mature mentally later (some not until they are 3 or more) than the larger breeds (usually between 1 and 2).

I would say it depends on what breed you are talking about. My eskies, even though they are all 3 or older still have their days where they act like puppies! My Toy always acts like a puppy. I'm not sure if that is because he is a toy or if he would be that way anyway.
