I have a black 1997 Nissan Maxima and I want to know wheter I can put an alternate engine in it, that will make it perform better(high performance). An example would be replacing a honda prelude's default engine with a B-20 V tech engine. Pls tell the name of the engine I can replace the maxima's default engine with, and where I could acquire one.
Please dont post any responces regarding the legality of it, because this is just for informational purposes only, despite the fact that i ask where you could acquire the default engine.
Thanks in advanced!!!

Blazemonkey In any kind of japanese cars any honda or toyota engines will work well and you can't go wrong, european or usa is not a good idea, they are all different due to their complexities. The bottom line is stick with what you know will, work and be positive on the outcome.GOOD LUCK .

I worked for Nissan for over 8 years and the VQ series engine that comes in all Maximas since 94 is rated as one of the best engine designs for a V6 of all time. Check out Wards Engine reviews and you will see that the engine has been on the top ten list for over 13 years. It is the same engine as the new 350's and G-35(with the displacement growing by a .5liter). I would suggest putting some add ons like a new in-take and free flow exhaust to give your car more power and better fuel efficiency. Pick up a copy of some of the tuner mags and they all have parts supply places in the ads. Another good place to look is Stillen. Steve Millen used to race for Nissan and now he has a high preformance co. that makes parts for the VQ engines. Your local nissan dealer should be able to provide you with NISMO( Nissan Motor Sports) parts as well.

Good Luck!

The only engine that's worthy to replace the stock engine is the VQ35DE from the 2002+ maxima. You'd also need the ECU, Transmission, and fab a couple of mounts to get the engine. Don't use the 350Z/G35 motor since those are RWD oriented motors and the IM is of a different design and will not fit the stock maxima hood.

Your choices will be limited to the 3.5 liter to replace the 3.0 or a 350Z The 2006 and 2007 350z HR engine makes 306 hp. I havent seen 350z engine in a maxima. Convert it to rear wheel drive and place a 500+ hp LS-7 corvette drive train in it. Good luck

Service Engine Soon is a check engine light.. needs to be scanned. It can be turned off by disconnecting battery, but will most likely come back.
