My Camry is leaking oil but I'm not sure why? It gives off a very strong almost intoxicating odour every now and again and once in a while it releases smoke from under the bonnet for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Also, when I first start my car after a few hours of being parked up, my A/C blasts cold air for about 5 minutes and then blasts hot air for the remainder of the time the car is running. I took the car to a recommended mechanic who did some kind of temporary fix for both of my problems, so the problem still exists.
Any ideas what may be causing these things to happen?
Any solutions or suggestions on how to fix them?

Tighten down you valve cover, and get the A/C unit recharged

The oil leak sounds like either the valve cover gasket or a seal- possibly the crank seal. The oil usually lands on the hot manifold, causing the smoke that you see. Buy some engine degreaser at a auto parts store and degrease your engine. It'll make it easier for you to find the oil leak and the manifold won't smoke and smell.

I am hoping this is a 4 cylinder engine, if so this may address your problems
1 Engine leaking oil. The 4 cylinders are notorious for having a leaking rear seal. This will leak after a while causing the very symptom you are describing.

2 AC blows cold then warm, I'd have then check three things
a. freon level
b expansion valve.
c serpentine belt is slipping (most likely)
( this happened on my car and was frustrating to diagnose)
If the freon is low, you might as well go ahead and change it to the newer freon as the older stuff is approaching $100.00 per pound

Hope this helps.

it sounds like you're leaking oil from your valve cover and it's leaking to your exaust manifold.
your a/c needs to be vacummed and new freeon put in and checked for leaks too. you might also need to check your distributor o-ring for an oil leak. the 92 - 95 model camry's are bad for leaking oil there.

it sounds like your oil is leaking out of your dipstick or valve cover and running onto your exhaust manifold and there is where the smell is coming from. as far as the air conditioner?

Perhaps the valve cover gasket needs replacement
