A "cholo" is a gang member.
Originally in Mexico (1930's) they were called "Pachucos", and from there it changed to "cholo" or "chola" for women.
Usually they wear hairnets, white T-shirts, baggy pants and shinny shoes. They have low rider cars that bounce. They have their own way of speaking, their own kind of music.
Some of them are a bad influence, but others, are doing great things for society.
Usually the father was the cholo, and now the whole family is involved in the group. Its a whole other culture. Not anyone can be a cholo.
They join in clubs and have car exhibitions to support special causes (cancer, aids, music, schools, etc).
Also, in South America, I think in Bolivia or Peru, the cholos are a native tribe.

A Cholo is a Mexican guy with a certain style, someone that acs smooth or cool. Most of the time they where brim hats (casual) and might have a goatee.

Its not just a "mexican" gangster. I'm mexican and cholos are gangsters. That is common way of saying it for the mexicans. A cholo can be any race not just a mexican gangster. But thats just what it means a gangster.
