i have sky in the lounge and my 2 children have freeview boxes in their rooms, i have had my aerial upgraded ready for when they swith tvs to digital . when they do will the digital signal be better then it is now because when we have a storm and in my part of the uk ( cambridge) we have had heavy thunder storms and rain every afternoon now for a couple of weeks and the signal freezes on everything ( sky and freeview) however the analogue signal is perfect. i understand why they want to change to digital but is this going to be improved when they do change.

With analogue TV as the signal weakens the picture gradually gets snowier until no longer watchable. With digital there is a sudden point at which the signal is too weak to be usable. This is called the edge of the cliff effect. Even with a good outdoor aerial you may not get all Freeview channels AT THE MOMENT because until the analogue is switched off, some freeview channel groups are being transmitted out- of -band and need a wideband aerial to receive them. Also digital is not on full power yet until analogue is switched off. Here is a link to help you.

Hope this helps.

We live in Swansea and weather affects our satellite too. The said change to analogue would be good less interference but I think the weather affects digital more. Our sky losses signal and my mothers freeview breaks up into squares on occasion. I wonder what the real reason is?
