does that mean they have blocked me ?
if so ....
then why is KyleX outing someone else for doing the same when I can't see his questions ?
heck I don't even know him so have no idea why I am blocked
not sure I like this blocking thing when we can't answer a question that is perhaps being rude about us or calling us out

what's your thoughts on this blocking thing guys ?

Well it looks as if you aren't the only person he has blocked. Reigan posted a similar question about him yesterday.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjVNc_cayYF33BWFtDbBPzQjzKIX?qid=20070704160434AA8yyAf

Apparently, he is so insecure in his beliefs that he will only allow those who are in agreement with him to answer his questions. By doing this, he is assured that his views will be validated, as he is most likely too immature to even consider an opposing viewpoint.

Rather sad, really, but no different from the people who specify who may answer their questions and then give a thumbs down to anyone who doesn't fit their ideal. We see this every day.

I don't care for the blocking feature at all, I feel it allows the really nasty ones here to say whatever they want about those they have blocked with no way for those people to defend themselves.

The privacy feature I like. Since making my q&a invisible to the public I have not received one violation notice. This is really the only feature needed. Why Yahoo! had to implement individual blocking is beyond me.

Like you, I have also been blocked by Kyle X and several others. I have, in turn, blocked them. Two can play this game.

Oh, on another note, by blocking those who might report their questions as inappropriate, the really nasty trolls will gain the upper hand--there's no way to report them. How could we ever report someone with a pornographic avater, or a person making threatening or racist remarks if we cannot view their question?

Yahoo! messed up on this one.

I think we all went nuts with it when it first came out and overdid everything and now it's very hard to backtrack. The worst is that it's reciprocal. Somebody blocked you,you block them back. I remember the second night I was on after I became aware of this feature. I must have been awful mad about something because I just binged out and blocked every atheist i saw or found. Now,that was just one two-hour thingie. But I really, really regret it. I apparently blocked Kallan,a pagan of high intelligence and immense courtesy; I can't imagine why,we've never even responded to each other although I have noticed his questions. It's a good thing to have since I was being harassed by three or four persons - but like anything new a lot of us went a little wild. I'm sure it will take time for people to patch it up,but it did create a lot of unnessesary hurt feelings. I'd like it to stay, but I'm personally going to review ALL my blocks. I shouldn't need more than 5,maybe 6.

Hi Pangel
A lot of people are confused about this blocking vs. keeping the Q&A private.

If you click on 'My Profile' under the 'edit my info' link, you will see choices as to keeping your info private, so that only those in your network/friends list can view your Q&A. You can also choose not to allow 'fans,' then no one could view it. The fact that many if not all of you can't view this persons profile, then imo/ you all are not blocked, rather their Q&A is made private.

Under the help section for Y!A, it says that if you were blocked, you would not be able to view any questions that the person has or had asked.

I would think that if a person gets blocked, Y!A would send an automatic response to you about it.

then he has blocked you.

i haven't blocked anyone. I have thought about blocking one person when he sent me a very long and drawn out email about all the reasons why I was going to hell.... but then I thought .... that is what they make the delete button for.

this is what i personally think as a christian. if you cant discuss your faith with another intelligently and listen to other peoples opinions then how strong are you in your faith to begin with. if your only answer is because.... then do you know why you believe what you believe.

i know that some of my atheist, pagan, and spiritual friends on r&s have asked questions that have made me sit down and think. they haven't made me change my beliefs BUT they have made me think. and there is nothing wrong with that. but some people can't handle having any outside thoughts, and therefore they block you.....

at least that is my theory.....

or the other option is they think they are going to hell for reading your answers......

I don't really care if someone is playing those kinds of games with me or not, Pangel. I guess I don't have enough ego invested in this place to worry about it. I figure my questions and answers speak well enough for themselves that anyone who wants to know something about me has that chance.

I've blocked several people along the way. Some were too immature and nasty. Three are people with whom our relationships came to an end and it just seemed prudent to establish some space for myself.

But I've never talked about anyone I've blocked.

But then, I rarely talk about anyone here.

Why bother to come on this site if you don't want to hear all types of opinions.I think blocking is only good if the person you blocked has been harassing you or calling you hateful names.Blocking just cause you don't like their opinion or what they believe in is just dumb to me.

He blocked YOU??? Wow. And you are the most peaceful person on here. That's pretty desperate.
He's a troll who is now enjoying the ability to post insulting "questions" about groups of people who don't share his beliefs for everyone to see, and then blocking them so they can't respond. It's cowardly.

I had wondered this, too.

As stated, if someone just posts non-sense throughout the forums constantly, that's one thing. If someone doesn't agree with you, then it shows that you can't take beliefs that make you question your own...

I've yet to block anyone. I'm afraid I'd miss something that makes me think...or argue :)

If you can't view a person's questions and answers it doesn't mean that you were blocked it just means that the person made their q&a's private so that nobody can see them. If you try to answer a question and it says something like you can't view this question at the moment or something like that then you will know that you have been blocked from answering that person's questions. Thanks for the thumbs down.

It happened to me the other day and I have no idea why the person blocked me. I guess blocking is an interesting way for people to create exclusive communities.

I block no one and think takes away from Y!A being an OPEN forum.
