A girl is raped and her rapist is put in prison. While locked up he has plenty of time to think about what he's done. He finds Jesus and asks for forgivness, he's forgiven and knowing this can continue on with his life happily. What about the victim, Jesus doesn't do anything for her. And claiming she is a born again virgin doesn't erase the memories. For those with faith in God who believe in being forgiven for all your sins by Jesus, how do you see this as fair? If it was you or your loved one who was the victim would you still believe that Jesus should forgive him?

George Z- I doubt you would feel that way if you were given the same punishment for stealing a candy bar as someone who raped and murdered a woman. You cannot tell me those crimes (or sins as you call them) are equal.
Mothra- If God allows rape that makes him a rapist himself. He caused it to happen? There are two kinds of evil, those who do evil and those who see evil and don't do anything about it.
To Everyone Who Says She Should Forgive Her Rapist- Would You? It's easy to preach of forgivness when your not the one who has been wronged.
an.t_christ- I agree, all religion is just a way to cope. A way to hide behind something and make life easier.
Liesel- Valid point. I would not forgive them. That is unforgiveable. I would want them to change but that does not mean they deserve forgivness.
Chris Says- Tell that to the Victim
To Those Who Seem Confused- Im not Christian and not Mormon, I don't know where you got that. I have NO religion, Im not Atheist either. Im outta letters!

Even better: Suppose the girl is, say, buddhist - she'll end up in hell, while her rapist (and murderer, if he killed her) ends up in heaven.

What a nice god the christians have there.

I believe there are 2 main forces in the world. Good and evil. Some call the good God and the evil Satan. However, I'm suspicious of people who are "born again" in prison. Also, I believe in Karma. What goes around comes around. He can believe he's been forgiven, but he still will have to pay - equally to his sin. No more, no less. I truly believe that. We may not see it, but it will happen. And no, I don't think I would forgive him if he did this to me or anyone I love. That makes it too easy on the criminal. He took something from his victim that can't be returned, so he needs to pay - born again or not. That's the way I feel - right or wrong.

Yes. It is the Lord's purpose to bring all of His children home. Some people never go to the Lord. Sometimes it takes something so horrible, they find that they finally see their true sin condition.

Isn't it better for a rapist to find hope in Christ's forgivness, and repent and never committ the crime again? Or would it be better that he has no hope of forgivness, and continue to rape? Maybe since he has no hope, he would start to murder after rape so he doesn't get identified?

Humans have down played so many sins as minor, but none are. Did you know that rape is a minor offense in Africa and even women who were raped do not think much of it (like a fender bender) I was shocked to hear how badly they were treated and they were remarkably unphased by the incident. Rape is so common in Africa, that it is as socially acceptable and socially defendable as homosexuality is in America.

You're quite wrong. First of all, just because a rapist asks for forgiveness doesn't automatically mean Jesus forgives him. Jesus knows his entire life, all his deepest thoughts and desires and future. If this man will change physically, emotionally and spiritually, only then will Jesus forgive him. And if he is forgiven, doesn't mean he won't have nightmares of the rape and his other sins. Doesn't mean he will just be happy. Some rapists' crimes haunt them forever like the victims' memories.

The rape victim can turn to Jesus as well. She can pray to Him for healing and guidance. And she can forgive the rapist herself. I forgave my rapist about 7 years after it happened. I'm over it. I lost my virginity that night as well. I never heard of 'born again virginity'. Once your virignity is gone, it's gone. But you didn't freely give it to that person, so emotionally it doesn't count. I gave myself to someone years later. Nothing will ever erase the memories but as time goes on the memories stopped coming as often. And I have never talked to my counselor about it. I just dealt with it by myself. But if you need professional help, get it! Or talk with someone at your church.

A sin is a sin. Lying, murder, stealing, rape, using God's name in vain, gossip, etc. are all sins. Rape and murder are might seem worse than stealing and gossip. But they are all sin. They all hurt the sinner and others around them and their relationship with God. We are all sinners and we can be forgiveness. God loves us so much. He wants us to be with Him forever. If in our hearts we want to be with Him forever, we have to ask for forgiveness and that means to change. To sin no more. Many people speak to God directly (not going to a priest) and ask for forgiveness and think all is forgiven and they will automatically get into Heaven. But this isn't going to be the case. Only God knows truly if He has forgiven them. They will find out after they die. And I think some will be surprised. So if a rapist thinks he has been forgiven, doesn't mean he has been. But if he has been, then that's fine. God knows he was truly sorry for his sin(s) and is changing for the better. God has the right to forgive anyonethat deserves it. It is fair. What if you committed a horrible sin, had an abortion, killed a stranger, embezzled 5 million dollars, etc. And you asked for forgiveness and weren't forgiven? Would that be fair?

I truly believe that everyone deserves a second chance and deserve a second chance. (except for the servere mentally ill and insane. They need to be locked up and out of society forever for safety reasons). But God knows what made them insane or mentally ill and He knows what is in their hearts, We don't. Let God deal with that. That part is too deep for mankind to deal with. For the victims of crimes, they can turn to the Lord for healing and guidance and help them through the forgiveness process as well.

God bless and peace be with you and yours!

Jesus will forgive a rapist only by His discretion. No human ever knows, except the rapist, if he is truely forgiven.

Also, as for the victim, life on earth is only a trial. A lot of hardships of different kind fall upon each individual on earth. And it is a cross we have to carry on this earth with patience and wait for His second coming.

Last but not the least, a victim who blesses and prays for the rapist with true passion, inspite of all the agony and shame and scars of the episode will DEFINITELY have a place reserved in HEAVEN.

On one hand no. On the other hand, what if it was your own brother or father that had raped someone? I hate to put it in those terms, but if they are someone you love, wouldn't you want them to change, to become a better person, even if the act/s they committed aren't forgiveable?

EDIT: I'm not saying the person should be forgiven or anything like that, but "what if?" you know? What if someone you loved did something so horrible, in your mind could you ever fathom that? It is horrible to be the victim (I've been a victim before--not of rape though), to be the victim's family must also be horrible, but what about the family of the person who committed the crime...that has got to be the worst feeling in the whole world. If a loved one did something like that, I would want them to go to jail, or whatever punishment the victim chose, but in my heart, I would hope that somehow, that family member would change, and become a better person, if only for themselves; even if they went to jail for the rest of their lives.

Jesus will forgive the guy. It would be hard for me to, and I would not forget it. The guy ought to be put in prison for life, as far as I am concerned.

He would not "continue on with his life happily," if I had anything to say about it. Forgiveness has little to do with it. He has to pay for his crime. You have to make restitution, which, in this case, would be to live the rest of your life behind bars.

The Lord will indeed provide help for the girl/woman who was raped. He will provide people here on earth to help her heal, even though she will never forget what happened to her.

No one said life is fair, whether you are Christian or not.

Rape is extremely wrong. You will notice the rapist was not freed from jail because he became a Christian.

We all need God's grace and that means that God's grace must extend to all. What would the cut-off be - in your opinion?

God's love extends to a rapist. Are we going to be angry with Him because He is so merciful?

EDIT: All sins are not equal - but any sin will keep you out of heaven. We all need a Savior and God provided even that through Christ.

The rapist must still pay his consequences. God will also heal the victim. It breaks God's heart to know how badly she was injured. His grace also extends to her needs.

I agree that I would not even want God to save this person. Aren't you glad I'm not God????? It's hard but give it time.......

It is obvious that most of us here have some spiritual growing to do.The victim of your story also needs to forgive, and then start her life anew again. I will say that this is not easy to do, since she is the victim, and working on this forgiveness is what will make her free again. Bible Study is a great way to learn more of what Jesus is about. rather then judging. The Answers will come from the Holy Spirit who is our teacher and guide. Search the Scripture for answers, do not Judge. God bless you all including the agnostic.

Not a Christian and I don't mean to intrude on your religion but I really feel that forgiviness is a Universal problem that everyone has to deal with so I will tell you my opinion:
Forgiviness is a gift you give yourself. Jesus can only give you forgivness in the afterlife which may or may not be true- we don't know, no one has ever died and come back to testify about it.
What we do know and agree about is that as far as we know 100% for sure- we MAY only get one life. Why chance wasting it?
So that girl could walk around and waste this life hating that misled man or she can forgive him, heal and move on to live a happy life and love someone. Likewise that man can forgive himself for the sick things he did and move on to make a difference in the world perhaps. Because he accepted Jesus' forgiveness means nothing about his current life. He could believe "Jesus forgives me so this life isn't for nothing but I still don't forgive myself." and go on to be miserable and hate himself forever.
I realize this is easy to type and much harder to practice but that is why I said before, that it is a gift you give to yourself because you love yourself and you want better FOR yourself and the people around you. Sometimes it is more selfish not to, like it is selfish to commit suicide just because YOU feel depressed- nonforgiveness is in effect emotional suicide anyways.

Sorry, I know that was a bit muddy. Just my 2 cents, good luck and BB :)

Do you mean besides having her marry her attacker?

Deu 22:28 - If a man find a damsel [that is] a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

Deu 22:29 - Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

Of course, he could just have the rapist do what he did, skip town and leave the woman to explain things as best she can
