The only benefit of this kind is only available for folks who qualify for the Earned Income Credit. Make sure you will qualify at the end of the year, before you take this next step. Don't win the lottery, or strike oil, or cut a new platinum CD.

Employers have a tax form that you can fill out requesting Advance EIC payments, and these payments are added to your paycheck and claimed as a tax burden when you file next year.

How this works: Employers are obligated to withhold Social Security taxes from each employee. Some of these funds are transferred to those who qualify for the Advanced EIC.

The EIC has changed. Years ago, you had to have children to qualify. This is no longer the case.

To see if you qualify, go to the link provided. If you need help, feel free to contact me.

Oops. I guess you can tell I had not read Judy's response.

Uh, no, you can only file for the current year after the year is done. Halfway through, there's no way of knowing yet what you'll get for a refund, if anything, for the year.

If you are eligible for the EIC, it is possible to get that distributed to you through your employer through the year instead of at the end. Then if something changes and you don't have that much coming for the year, you'd have to pay it back.
